The election for Lieutenant Governor of Delaware took place on November 8, 2016, coinciding with the Delaware gubernatorial election. The office had been vacant since former Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn was inaugurated as Attorney General on January 6, 2015. [1]

Wilmington, Delaware Largest city in Delaware

Wilmington is the largest and most populous city in the U.S. state of Delaware. The city was built on the site of Fort Christina, the first Swedish settlement in North America. It is at the confluence of the Christina River and Brandywine River, near where the Christina flows into the Delaware River. It is the county seat of New Castle County and one of the major cities in the Delaware Valley metropolitan area. Wilmington was named by Proprietor Thomas Penn after his friend Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington, who was prime minister in the reign of George II of Great Britain.

Kent County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Delaware. As of the 2010 census, the population was 162,310, making it the least populous county in Delaware. The county seat is Dover, the state capital of Delaware. It is named for Kent, an English county.

State Senator Colin Bonini had announced that he was running for Governor in November 2014, but reportedly was considering switching to run for Lieutenant Governor. [15] Bonini announced on November 23, 2015 that he would remain in the race for Governor. [16]
