The 2016 Miami-Dade County mayoral election took place on August 30, 2016 and November 8, 2016. After an August 30 first round, incumbent Mayor Carlos A. Giménez defeated Miami Dade School Board member Raquel Regalado on November 8. [1] The election was officially nonpartisan. The race was marred by controversy, including attempts by Regalado to take Giménez off the ballot [2] and accusations that Giménez was responsible for flyers suggesting Regalado was in association with then Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump. [3]

Carlos A. Giménez is a Cuban American retired firefighter and Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida, elected to office June 28, 2011 in a special election. He previously served as a Miami-Dade County Commissioner from 2003 through 2011, and the Fire Chief of the City of Miami Fire Department. He is a member of the Republican Party, but his position of mayor of Miami-Dade County is a nonpartisan one.

Jean Monestime

Jean Monestime is an American politician, real estate businessman and a member of the Miami-Dade County Commission since 2010. He is the first Haitian-American to serve as a Miami-Dade County commissioner, as well as the first to chair the commission. Monestime represents District 2 in northeast Miami-Dade County, which incorporates portions of North Miami, North Miami Beach and Biscayne Gardens, as well as the Miami neighborhoods of Little Haiti and Liberty City.

The 2014 North Miami mayoral election took place on November 4, 2014, to elect the mayor of North Miami, Florida. The election was officially nonpartisan. The election was held after the arrest of Mayor Lucie Tonderou earlier in 2014. Smith Joseph was elected after a runoff election between him and former mayor Kevin Burns. The first round was held on August 26, 2014.

Luzerne County Council elections
