DeltaHawk Engines, Inc. is an American aircraft engine manufacturer.

The company builds Diesel and Jet-A-fuelled engines for general aviation aircraft. [1]

DeltaHawk engines have been tested in a Velocity RG homebuilt aircraft, an Australian Delta D2 helicopter and retrofitted in a Cirrus SR20 certified aircraft. [2] In 2011 The State of Wisconsin and the city of Racine, Wisconsin granted low-interest loans to expand the company's production capability. [3]

DeltaHawk was originally working toward a 2012 Federal Aviation Administration certification of its engine line and later set a goal of 2015, but these were not achieved. [4] [5] The DeltaHawk DH180 received its type certificate from the FAA in May 2023, with first customer deliveries planned for 2024. [6] [7] DeltaHawk DH160 certification has not been completed.

On 1 Feb 2024 Deltahawk announced the addition of 200HP and a 235HP engines.

The Ruud family, led by Alan Ruud, took controlling interest in the company in May 2015. Their plans include development of the existing models in the engine line, plus development of higher horsepower engines for certified light aircraft. [8]

The aircraft diesel engine or aero diesel is a diesel-powered aircraft engine. They were used in airships and tried in aircraft in the late 1920s and 1930s, but were never widely adopted until recently. Their main advantages are their excellent specific fuel consumption, the reduced flammability and somewhat higher density of their fuel, but these have been outweighed by a combination of inherent disadvantages compared to gasoline-fueled or turboprop engines. The ever-rising cost of avgas and doubts about its future availability have spurred a resurgence in aircraft diesel engine production in the early 2010s.

The Rotax 912 is a horizontally-opposed four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, four-stroke aircraft engine with a reduction gearbox. It features liquid-cooled cylinder heads and air-cooled cylinders. Originally equipped with carburetors, later versions are fuel injected. Dominating the market for small aircraft and kitplanes, Rotax produced its 50,000th 912-series engine in 2014. Originally available only for light sport aircraft, ultralight aircraft, autogyros and drones, the 912-series engine was approved for certified aircraft in 1995.

The Diamond DA42 Twin Star is a four seat, twin engine, propeller-driven airplane developed and manufactured in Austria and Canada by Diamond Aircraft Industries, an Austrian subsidiary of China-based Wanfeng Aviation. It was Diamond's first twin engine design, as well as the first new European twin-engine aircraft in its category to be developed in over 25 years.
