The department is under the leadership of a Cabinet minister for science and technology, and the incumbent minister is Pinarayi Vijayan. [3] The department is administratively headed by a Principal Secretary to the Government, an IAS officer. The Secretary is assisted by additional, joint, deputy, and under secretaries at the Secretariat. [1]
The department is responsible for coordinating government initiatives in the science and technology sector and for promoting scientific research, innovation, and technology-based development in the State.
