Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology is a research institute in India, exclusive devoted to research in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. It is located at Thiruvananthapuram , the capital city of the state of Kerala in India. This centre is an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology of the Govt. of India. Previously, it was an R&D centre under Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment which is a funding agency for research Institutes and centers in Kerala.
The centre was inaugurated on 18 November 2002 by then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The institute has highly focused research departments working on different areas of biological sciences under following areas.
The Center has a regional facility for Genetic Fingerprinting, which provides DNA analysis services for forensic & criminal investigations, paternity disputes, identification of wildlife remains, authentication of plants and seeds besides a battery of molecular diagnostics for genetic and infectious diseases. RGCB is also a major provider of laboratory and infrastructure services to other academic and research institutions. RGCB has a strength of 25 scientists, 120 Ph.D. students and around 100 research project staff. The centre has good infrastructural facilities for carrying out research in the field of Biotechnology. Financial support of Rs. 100 crores sanctioned by the Govt. of India in 2008, for a period of 3 years, apart from the yearly allocation of Rs. 25 crores, aims at making RGCB a world class research centre in the near future. RGCB is set to expand further into a second campus at Aakkulum shortly. It would focus on R & D and also provide a unique "TEST & PROVE" facility to encourage biotechnology. BioSpectrum magazine ranked Bio-Technology course at RGCB as second best in the country only after Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. [1]

Genome Valley is an Indian high-technology business district spread across 2,000-acre (8.1 km2)/(3.1 sq mi) in Hyderabad, India. Nagendra Kumar Singh is an Indian agricultural scientist. He is presently a National Professor Dr. B.P. Pal Chair and JC Bose National Fellow at ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He was born in a small village Rajapur in the Mau District of Uttar Pradesh, India. He is known for his research in the area of plant genomics, genetics, molecular breeding and biotechnology, particularly for his contribution in the decoding of rice, tomato, wheat, pigeon pea, jute and mango genomes and understanding of wheat seed storage proteins and their effect on wheat quality. He has made significant advances in comparative analysis of rice and wheat genomes and mapping of genes for yield, salt tolerance and basmati quality traits in rice. He is one of the highest cited agricultural scientists from India for the last five years.

The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences in 2002.
Pradeep Kumar G. is an Indian cell biologist and a scientist at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology. Known for his studies in the field of disease biology, Dr Kumar is a life member of the Kerala Academy of Sciences. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences in 2006. He has also been conferred with the prestigious Labhsetwar Award (2015) and the Dr. TC Anand Kumar Memorial Oration Award (2016) of the Indian Society for the Study of Reproduction and Fertility (ISSRF) and the Subhas Mukherjee Memorial Oration Award (2017) of the Academy of Clinical Embryologists.
Bio 360 Life Sciences Park is a Biotechnology and Life Sciences park in the city of Thiruvananthapuram, India. Established in 2013, by the Government of Kerala, the Phase I of the park is spread over 75 acres (30 ha). An additional 128.5 acres (52.0 ha) of land is being undertaken by the government of Kerala as the Phase 2 development of the park.

Moinak Banerjee is an Indian researcher, who is presently working as a scientist at Human Molecular Genetics laboratory of Neurobiology division in Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He had been the President of Indian society of Human Genetics and also been the Vice President of Association of DNA Fingerprinting and Associated Technologies. His main area of research involves deciphering molecular pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric disorders employing genetics, pharmacogenetics, immunogenetics and epigenetics approaches. His research group was the pioneer in addressing the genetic structure of Kerala population. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) A, B and C allelic diversity based studies from his lab showed that Dravidian tribal communities were distinct from the other ethnic populations globally. He also postulated a crypto‐Dravidian origin of non-tribal communities of Kerala, as there were traces of genetic admixture with the Mediterranean, western European, central Asian and East Asian populations. Population genetic studies were carried out using non-functional markers, such as microsatellite markers, and functional markers like immunogenetic markers, Pharmacogenomic genes and epigenetic genes. Some of his work has been translated in regional languages to reach wider audience by other authors [5,6,7]. He strongly supports the opinion that population genetics forms the foundation for disease genetic studies.
Genome India Project (GIP) is a research initiative led by the Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Science's Centre for Brain Research and involves over 20 universities across the country in an effort to gather samples, compile data, conduct research, and create an ‘Indian reference genome' grid.
