Derek Soutar (born 4 June 1981) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper.

Career

Soutar began his career with Dundee and had loan spells with Brechin City [1] and Alloa Athletic.

He signed for Aberdeen in July 2006. Things looked bright for Soutar after the Dons' regular keeper, Jamie Langfield, had a drink fuelled bust up with manager Jimmy Calderwood after bumping into the manager during his honeymoon. As a result of the incident Langfield was demoted to the bench and Soutar was made first choice. [2] On 15 April 2008, he was told he would not be offered a new contract by Aberdeen and would be free to leave in the summer along with six other players.

Soutar signed for Ross County the following September [3] but was freed in the summer of 2009, before being listed as a trialist substitute with Dundee earlier this season before rejoining the club. [4] He was released by the club on 4 May 2010 along with 8 other players, [5] and two days later signed a contract with Cypriot side APEP F.C. [6]

On 6 January 2011, Derek Soutar signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Formartine United. [7] Soutar signed for Forfar Athletic during the 2012 summer transfer window. [8]

In March 2011, Soutar set up the Derek Soutar Goalkeeping and Footballing School [9] to help children learn and develop general football and specialised goalkeeping skills. Soutar was employed by Dundee United to coach their young goalkeepers, but he was sacked from this role in April 2015 after he posted a Facebook message celebrating a victory for Dundee FC in a Dundee derby match. He also represented Scotland at international level, playing 19 times between 2002 and 2005. In 2017, Douglas was inducted into the Dundee FC Hall of Fame.

James Neil Alexander is a Scottish football coach and former professional player. He began his career in the Scottish Football League with spells at Stenhousemuir and Livingston, before joining Cardiff City in May 2001 for a fee of £130,000. At Ninian Park, he went on to make over 200 appearances in all competitions during a six-year spell at the club, helping them achieve promotion to the Football League First Division via the 2003 Football League Second Division play-off final. James Robert Langfield is a Scottish football player and coach, who is currently the goalkeeping coach at St Mirren. Langfield, who played as a goalkeeper, started his career with Dundee. He then played for Partick Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic before joining Aberdeen in 2005. He went on to spend the next decade with Aberdeen, regaining his place in the team after being dropped for off-field indiscipline in 2007, a loss of form in 2008 and then again in 2012 after suffering a brain seizure that kept him out of competitive action for nine months. He was voted the Aberdeen player of the year in 2009 and was part of the team that won the Scottish League Cup in 2014.

Aberdeen competed in the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup during the 2008–09 season.

Season 2009–10 for Hibernian was their eleventh consecutive season of play in the Scottish Premier League. The SPL season began on 15 August 2009, with a 2–1 win against St Mirren at home. After a very strong start to the season in which they challenged for the league leadership, Hibs then had a slump in form in the later part of the season. The team eventually secured a Europa League place via finishing fourth in the SPL by winning 2–0 on the final day at Tannadice. Hibs were eliminated from the Scottish Cup in a quarter final replay by Ross County and were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup in the third round by St Johnstone.

The 2011–12 season was Aberdeen's 99th season in the top flight of Scottish football. Aberdeen competed in the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. Aberdeen were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup at the third round stage, losing on penalties to East Fife after a 3–3 draw. In the Scottish Cup, Aberdeen lost 1–2 to Hibernian in the semi-final. Aberdeen finished in 9th place in the Scottish Premier League.

The 2010–11 season was Dundee's 6th consecutive season in the Scottish First Division after being relegated from the SPL in 2005.

The 2015–16 season was Aberdeen's 103rd season in the top flight of Scottish football and the third in the Scottish Premiership. Aberdeen also competed in the League Cup and the Scottish Cup and the Europa League.
