Derrick Crawford (born September 13, 1979) is a former American indoor football defensive lineman. He has most recently played for the Cincinnati Commandos of the Continental Indoor Football League. He attended Avon Park High School in Avon Park, Florida, where he was a standout at tight end being named the 1997 Florida District 12 3A Player of the Year. After a junior college career at Trinity Valley Community College, Crawford attended Texas A&M University-Commerce where he was a standout on defense, twice being named to All-Lone Star Conference Teams and named the conference's Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2003.

After his graduation, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals, spending the 2004 season as a member of their practice squad. He was re-signed by the Bengals in 2005, where they assigned him to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe. After limited success as a professional in outdoor football, Crawford signed to play Arena football in 2006. He spent the offseason with the Orlando Predators, but didn't see playing time until 2007 when he signed with the Las Vegas Gladiators. Crawford would again attempt indoor football in 2010, when he signed with the Miami Valley Silverbacks. He achieved a 2nd Team All-CIFL honor, while helping the Silverbacks make their second playoff appearance in team history. He signed with the Cincinnati Commandos in 2011, but was let go before the season started.

Crawford attended Avon Park High School in Avon Park, Florida, where he was a standout at tight end being named the 1997 Florida District 12 3A Player of the Year. [1]

Crawford attended Trinity Valley Community College, upon his graduation from Avon Park.

UCF

Crawford was to attend the University of Central Florida in 2000, [2] but he never played for the Golden Knights.

Texas A&M-Commerce

Crawford ended up at Texas A&M University–Commerce in 2001. He started at defensive tackle for the Lions as they posted a 7–4 record in 2001. [3] Crawford helped the Lions 2–8 record in 2002, [4] while on his way to a 2nd Team All-West Region Team by Daktronics, [5] and a 2nd Team All-Lone Star Conference. [6] His senior year, Crawford switched to defensive lineman, where he was named 1st Team All-Lone Star Conference in addition to winning the Conference's Defensive Lineman of the Year Award. [7]

Professional career

Cincinnati Bengals

After graduation from Texas A&M-Commerce, Crawford signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals on April 27, 2004. [8] He was released by the Bengals on September 1, only to be re-signed December 1 as a practice squad member. He re-signed with the Bengals in the offseason of 2005. [9]

Orlando Predators

Crawford signed with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League for the 2005 season. But before he played with the Predators, he re-signed with the Bengals. [10]

Frankfurt Galaxy

The Bengals assigned Crawford to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe on February 15, 2005. For the season, Crawford recorded 3 sacks for a total of 24 yards lost. [11]

Las Vegas Gladiators

Crawford played in his only arena football game in 2007 with the Las Vegas Gladiators. He recorded one game on the season.

Miami Valley Silverbacks

Crawford returned to playing football professionally in 2010 when he joined the Miami Valley Silverbacks of the Continental Indoor Football League. [12] Crawford started every game for the Silverbacks at nose tackle. Crawford finished the season with 18.5 tackles and was second on the team with 6 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. [13] Crawford also scored two touchdowns for the Silverbacks on the season, with one coming on the final play of a 22–18 victory over the Wisconsin Wolfpack. Crawford recovered a missed field goal attempt and ran it into the end zone as time expired. [14] Crawford was named second-team All-CIFL for his efforts during the 2010 season, helping the Silverbacks to a 4–6 record, and just their second playoff berth in franchise history.

Cincinnati Commandos

In 2011, Crawford signed with the Cincinnati Commandos in the offseason, [15] but never played with the Commandos in a regular season game.

The Commandos were the fifth arena or indoor football in Cincinnati, after the Cincinnati Rockers, Cincinnati Swarm, Cincinnati Marshals, and Cincinnati Jungle Kats. The owners of the Commandos are Dennis Whitman and Paul Napier. The Commandos played their home games at Cincinnati Gardens.

The 2010 Continental Indoor Football League season was the league's fifth overall season. The regular season started on Saturday March 13 with the expansion Cincinnati Commandos defeating the Miami Valley Silverbacks 38-32, and ended with the 2010 CIFL Championship Game, on June 26, 2010, at the Cincinnati Gardens in Cincinnati, Ohio where the Commandos defeated the Wisconsin Wolfpack 54-40.

Marion Blue Racers

The Marion Blue Racers were a professional indoor football team based in Marion, Ohio. The Blue Racers began play as an expansion team in the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) in 2011, before moving to the United Indoor Football League (UIFL) for the 2012 season. The Blue Racers returned to the CIFL in 2013. The team had announced that it would be joining the Xtreme Indoor Football League (XIFL) for the 2014, but later re-signed with the CIFL. During the 2015 season, the Blue Racers played as members of X-League Indoor Football.

The Indianapolis Enforcers were a professional indoor football team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The team was a member of the Continental Indoor Football League. 2011 Dayton Silverbacks season

The 2011 Dayton Silverbacks season was the sixth season for the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) franchise. In 2011, the Silverbacks saw several changes. They changed the franchise name from the "Miami Valley Silverbacks" to the "Dayton Silverbacks" and found a home arena in Hara Arena in Trotwood, Ohio. The Silverbacks brought back Derrick Shepard to coach the team after Brian Wells took a job with the Commandos. The Silverbacks continued their success from the following season, finished with a franchise best .500 winning percentage, and a second consecutive playoff appearance. They would go on to lose in the Semi-finals to the Marion Blue Racers.

The 2010 Wisconsin Wolfpack season was the second season for the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) franchise. For 2010, the Wolfpack chose to move its home games to the Hartmeyer Arena on the northeast side of Madison. 2010 also saw the team stock its roster with more players from the nearby Wisconsin Badgers football program. Joining defensive lineman Kurt Ware and linebacker James Kamoku from the 2009 Wolfpack would be tight end Andy Crooks, safety Josh Nettles, defensive lineman Ricky Garner, offensive lineman Kenny Jones and, following a season-ending injury to quarterback Brian Ryczkowski, Matt Schabert. Under Schabert's guidance, the Wolfpack had its most successful season to date, indoor or outdoor, finishing the regular season 8-2 and becoming the only team to defeat the then-undefeated Cincinnati Commandos. The Wolfpack would win its first-ever home playoff game, beating the Fort Wayne FireHawks, 25-24, before falling to the Commandos in the 2010 CIFL Championship Game, 54-40, in Cincinnati.

2011 Indianapolis Enforcers season

The 2011 Indianapolis Enforcers season was the first season for the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) franchise.

The 2011 Marion Blue Racers season was the first season for the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) franchise. They took over to fill the void in Marion, Ohio, after the Marion Mayhem folded the year before. The franchise couldn't have asked for a more exciting start than their first game on March 5, 2011. Marion entered the 4th quarter trailing 37-23 to the Port Huron Predators. They started their comeback by scoring a touchdown with 10:31 left in the game. Mike Tatum caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Josh Harris and Tyler Lorenz added the extra point, cutting Port Huron’s lead was cut to 37–30. With 3:27 left in the game, Harris ran in from three yards out to tie the game. The game-winning score came on an eight-yard run by Harris with 27 seconds to play. Port Huron quarterback Jim Roth was intercepted by Bryan Williams as time expired to secure the victory. On April 2, 2011, the Blue Racers set a CIFL record with 8 rushing touchdowns in a single game, against the Indianapolis Enforcers. After the Blue Racers got off to a 3–1 start, Demetrius Ross stepped down from his head coaching position, citing personal reasons. His defensive coordinator, Ryan Terry, took over as head coach, just 2 days before the Blue Racers played their first road game at the Dayton Silverbacks. The Blue Racers went on to an 8–2 regular season record, losing twice to the Cincinnati Commandos. The team defeated the Dayton Silverbacks 53–18 in the league semi-finals, before being defeated by the Commandos again in the 2011 CIFL Championship Game 44–29.

The Dayton Silverbacks were a professional indoor football team based in Dayton, Ohio. The team was a member of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL). The franchise started as the Miami Valley Silverbacks and joined the CIFL in 2007 after playing their inaugural season as an expansion team in the American Indoor Football Association. The Silverbacks were the fourth indoor football team to be based in Dayton, the first being the Dayton Skyhawks of the original Indoor Football League. The Skyhawks were followed by the Dayton Warbirds, who later became the Dayton Bulldogs, of the National Indoor Football League and the third being the Cincinnati Marshals who played their 2007 season in Dayton. The Owner of the Silverbacks was Various people through the years with the final owner being Corwyn Thomas of Cincinnati. The Silverbacks played their home games at Hara Arena in nearby Trotwood, Ohio.
