The Detroit Mercy Titans men's basketball team is the college basketball team that represents University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan, and competes in NCAA Division I men's basketball as a member of the Horizon League. Traditionally, the Titans have been a fair "mid-major" program, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 1977 and to the Round of 32 in 1998 and 1999. The Titans have appeared in the NCAA Tournament six times, most recently in 2012. The Titans are currently coached by Mark Montgomery, who was hired on April 3, 2024. [2] The Titans play their home games at Calihan Hall on the school's McNichols Campus.

In the late seventies, Coach Dick Vitale led the Titans to two NCAA tournament appearances before heading the Detroit Pistons and later embarking on a broadcasting career that would put him in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The University of Detroit Mercy is a private Roman Catholic university in Detroit, Michigan. It is sponsored by both the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the Sisters of Mercy. The university was founded in 1877 and is the largest Catholic university in Michigan. It has four campuses where it offers more than 100 academic degree programs.
The Detroit Mercy Titans are the athletic teams of University of Detroit Mercy. The university is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The school primarily competes in the Horizon League, but competes in other conferences for fencing and lacrosse, sports not sponsored for either men or women by the Horizon League. Fencing, a co-ed sport, competes in the Midwest Fencing Conference. Men's lacrosse moved from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to the ASUN Conference in July 2021. Women's lacrosse joined the Mid-American Conference for that league's first women's lacrosse season in 2021.
Calihan Hall is a 7,917-seat multi-purpose arena in Detroit. It is home to the University of Detroit Mercy Titans basketball team. The arena opened in 1952. The building was dedicated on May 25, 1952 as the Memorial Building. The first basketball game was played on December 2 of that year when the Titans defeated Kalamazoo College, 75–61. In 1977, the name was changed to Calihan Hall in honor of Bob Calihan, the Titans' first basketball All-American who went on to become the school's winningest coach.
Earl Cureton was an American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nicknamed "the Twirl", he played college basketball for the Robert Morris Colonials and Detroit Mercy Titans. Cureton was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the third round of the 1979 NBA draft. He won an NBA championship with the 76ers and the Houston Rockets, and also played in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte Hornets, and Toronto Raptors. He also played in multiple countries overseas.

The Titans played their home games at Calihan Hall and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 20–13, 12–4 in Horizon League play to finish in second place. They lost in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament to Wright State. They received an invitation to the 2013 NIT where they lost in the first round to Arizona State.

Antoine Davis is an American professional basketball player for the Stockton Kings of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Detroit Mercy Titans. He was twice named the Horizon League Player of the Year, a five-time All-Horizon League First Team selection, and finished his career as NCAA Division I's second all-time leading scorer with 3,664 points and all-time three-point shot maker.

The 2023–24 Detroit Mercy Titans men's basketball team represented the University of Detroit Mercy during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Titans, led by sixth-year head coach Mike Davis, played their home games at the Calihan Hall. The Titans started the season losing their first 26 games. The Titans' only win of the season came on February 14, 2024 when they defeated IUPUI 81–66. They finished the season 1–31, 1–19 in Horizon League play to finish in last place. They lost to Milwaukee in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament.
Davis, the fifth-year senior guard whose No. 0 was hanging in the rafters at Calihan Hall for the first time for all to see Tuesday – it was retired by Detroit Mercy following the final regular-season game – made back-to-back 3's about 12 minutes into the game, opening up a 24-16 lead. He had 15 points at that point.
