Jermaine Maurice Jackson Sr. (born June 7, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Jackson graduated from Finney High School of Detroit in 1995. [1] At the University of Detroit Mercy, Jackson played four seasons on the Detroit Titans men's basketball team. Considered one of the Top 50 Midwestern Collegiate Conference / Horizon League Players from (1994-2012). [2] [3]
Jackson was undrafted in 1999 following a college career at the University of Detroit Mercy and began his professional career with the Detroit Pistons (1999-00), going on to play for the Toronto Raptors (2002–03), Atlanta Hawks (2003) and New York Knicks (2005), averaging 2.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his NBA career. The Knicks included Jackson in a trade along with Mike Sweetney and Tim Thomas in exchange for Antonio Davis and Eddy Curry of the Chicago Bulls. He was cut by the Bulls on October 18, 2005, and was signed by the Milwaukee Bucks on December 15, 2005. He played for the Bucks in the 2005–06 season, with the team renouncing their NBA rights to him on July 19, 2007. Jackson signed with the Seattle SuperSonics on October 1, [4] and was waived during that month.
He also played professionally in the CBA, as well as in Europe for a number of teams, winning the 2004 Italian Cup with Benetton Treviso.
In January 2011 he signed with Maccabi Haifa B.C. in Israel. [5] Maccabi released him in March 2012. [6] While with Maccabi, Jackson played in the Israeli Basketball Super League All-Star Game in 2012. [7]

Jermaine Jackson returned to Michigan after being released from Maccabi Haifa and opened the Jermaine Jackson-Cairns Community Center in Mount Clemens in May. The community center also includes the Jermaine Jackson Academy for youth basketball instruction. [8] Jackson also that year became the boys' basketball coach at Mount Clemens High School. [9]
On June 29, 2015, Jackson was named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for University of Detroit Mercy. After the dismissal of UDM head coach Ray McCallum in the spring of 2016, Jackson was appointed interim head coach until the Titans hired Bacari Alexander who kept Jackson on staff as the lead associate.
In late June 2018, Jackson joined SPIRE Institute, a prep school in Geneva, Ohio, as the head basketball coach. [10] During his first season, one of the players he coached was LaMelo Ball, a player who previously played professionally in Lithuania, as well as in his father's Junior Basketball Association. Jackson was named Coach of the Year of The Grind Session during his tenure with Spire.
More recently he has become LaMelo Ball's manager.[ citation needed ]
Jackson's cousin, Brandon Jenkins, is also a professional basketballer. He currently plays in Switzerland for BC Boncourt. [11] [12]
Jackson's son, Jermaine Jr., is also a basketball player who is committed to play at his father's alma mater and former school of employment, the University of Detroit Mercy under head coach and close family friend Bacari Alexander. [13]
David Albert DeBusschere was an American professional National Basketball Association (NBA) player and coach and Major League Baseball (MLB) player. He played for the Chicago White Sox of MLB in 1962 and 1963 and in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons from 1962 through 1968 and for the New York Knicks from 1968 to 1974. He was also the head coach for the Pistons from 1964 through 1967.
Chauncey Ray Billups is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Billups spent the majority of his 17-year basketball career playing for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he won the NBA Finals MVP in 2004 after helping the Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals, and was given the nickname "Mr. Big Shot" for making late-game shots with Detroit. The Pistons retired his No. 1 jersey in 2016. After playing college basketball with the Colorado Buffaloes, he was selected third overall in the 1997 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. A five-time NBA All-Star, a three-time All-NBA selection and two-time NBA All-Defensive selection, Billups also played for the Celtics, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Clippers during his NBA career.
Philip Douglas Jackson is an American former professional basketball player, coach, and executive. A power forward, Jackson played 12 seasons in the NBA, winning NBA championships with the New York Knicks in 1970 and 1973. Regarded as one of the greatest coaches of all time, Jackson was the head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 1989 to 1998, leading them to six NBA championships. He then coached the Los Angeles Lakers from 1999 to 2004 and again from 2005 to 2011; the team won five league titles under his leadership. Jackson's 11 NBA titles as a coach surpassed the previous record of nine set by Red Auerbach. Beno Udrih is a Slovenian former professional basketball player who is currently the head coach of the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G League. He previously played in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons. During his time with the Spurs, Udrih won two NBA titles in 2005 and 2007.

Mark A. Jackson is an American former professional basketball player who was a point guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the St. John's Red Storm and was selected by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 1987 NBA draft with the 18th overall pick. He played in the NBA for the Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets in a career spanning from 1987 to 2004.

Earl Cureton was an American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Detroit Mercy Titans men's basketball team is the college basketball team that represents University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan, and competes in NCAA Division I men's basketball as a member of the Horizon League. Traditionally, the Titans have been a fair "mid-major" program, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 1977 and to the Round of 32 in 1998 and 1999. The Titans have appeared in the NCAA Tournament six times, most recently in 2012. The Titans are currently coached by Mark Montgomery, who was hired on April 3, 2024. The Titans play their home games at Calihan Hall on the school's McNichols Campus.

Bacari Torrell Alexander is an American college basketball coach, formerly the men's basketball head coach at Detroit Mercy. He is a former assistant coach at Michigan, Western Michigan, Ohio, and Detroit Mercy. At Michigan, Alexander was responsible for coaching the team's post players, developing defensive strategies, scouting opponents and on-court coaching. In six seasons as an assistant coach under Michigan head coach John Beilein, Michigan advanced to the NCAA tournament each year, won Big Ten Conference regular season championships in 2012 and 2014 and appeared in the Elite 8 in 2014 and the National Championship in 2013.
Kam Chatman is an American professional basketball player for KVIS Pardubice of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball for the Detroit Titans after transferring from the Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team following his sophomore season. He played high school basketball for Columbia Christian Schools. He was one of 26 players selected for the April 18, 2014 Jordan Brand Classic. He is a cousin of Ndamukong Suh.
The 2016–17 Detroit Titans men's basketball team, also known as Detroit Mercy, represented the University of Detroit Mercy during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Titans, led by first-year head coach Bacari Alexander, played their home games at Calihan Hall as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 8–23, 6–12 in Horizon League play to finish in seventh place. As the No. 7 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they lost to Milwaukee in the first round.
The 2017–18 Detroit Titans men's basketball team, also known as Detroit Mercy, represented the University of Detroit Mercy during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Titans, led by second-year head coach Bacari Alexander, played their home games at Calihan Hall as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 8–24, 4–14 in Horizon League play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the Horizon League tournament to Green Bay.
