The politics of Nepal functions within the framework of a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the Prime Minister and their cabinet,while legislative power is vested in the Parliament.
The Communist Party of Nepal is the second largest political party in Nepal. As per the results of recent elections,CPN (UML) stands as the second largest party of Nepal at all levels of government. There have been four prime ministers from the party while the party has led the government five times. CPN (UML) currently serves as the opposition in the Federal Parliament of Nepal and all of the seven provincial assemblies. As of 2021,the party claims to have nearly 600,000 members.

The Nepal Communist Party,abbreviated NCP is a defunct communist party of Nepal. It was founded on 17 May 2018,from the unification of two leftist parties,Communist Party of Nepal and Communist Party of Nepal. The unification was completed by the Party Unification Coordination Committee,after eight months of negotiation. The two predecessor parties subsequently dissolved,making way for the new united party. The party retained the electoral symbol of the CPN,the sun.
The Unified Communist Party of Nepal,abbreviated UCPN (Maoist),,was a political party in Nepal. It was founded in 2009 after merging with minor Communist parties including the Janamorcha Nepal. On May 19,2016,it merged with ten other breakaway factions and minor parties to form Communist Party of Nepal.
The 2017 Nepalese local elections were held in Nepal in three phases on 14 May,28 June and 18 September in 6 metropolitan cities,11 sub-metropolitan cities,276 municipalities and 460 rural municipalities. It was the first local level election to be held since the promulgation of the 2015 constitution.
General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives,the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government. Following the announcement of final result by the Election Commission,K.P. Oli of Communist Party of Nepal was sworn in as Prime Minister on 15 February 2018 by the President according to Article 76 (2) of the constitution. He passed a Motion of Confidence on 11 March 2018 with 208 votes.
The Second Oli cabinet was the Government of Nepal from 15 February 2018 to 13 July 2021. It was initially formed as a majority coalition on 15 February 2018,after Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli was elected as the new Prime Minister of Nepal following the 2017 general election. Oli's candidacy was supported by the Communist Party of Nepal and the Communist Party of Nepal. He assumed his office along with two ministers with the remaining ministers added at later points. The CPN withdrew its support from the government in May 2021,reducing it to a minority,and after the dissolution of the House of Representatives,it turned into an interim government. The second Oli cabinet was replaced by the fifth Deuba cabinet,formed after the Supreme Court ordered the appointment of Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister under in accordance with Article 76 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Renu Dahal is a Nepalese politician and current Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City. She joined the CPN party in 1994 and became full timer member of the party in 1996. Dahal is the daughter of former Prime Minister and co-chair of Nepal Communist Party,Pushpa Kamal Dahal. She was the member of First Constituent Assembly of Nepal.

National Assembly elections were held in Nepal on 26 January 2022 in order to elect 19 of the 20 retiring Class II members of the National Assembly,the upper house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. Members of the National Assembly are elected through indirect ballot and serve six year terms with one third of the members retiring every two years. However,the retiring members served only four year terms due to the entire house being elected in 2018 when a lottery was held to determine two,four and six year term members.
General elections were held in Nepal on 20 November 2022 to elect the 275 members of the House of Representatives. There were two ballots in the election;one to elect 165 members from single-member constituencies via FPTP,and the other to elect the remaining 110 members from a single nation-wide constituency via party-list proportional representation.
Municipal election for Jitpursimara took place on 13 May 2022,with all 122 positions up for election across 24 wards. The electorate elected a mayor,a deputy mayor,24 ward chairs and 96 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive.
Yashoda Gurung is a Nepalese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. She was elected to the House of Representatives from the CPN party list under the indigenous people quota. She was also a member of the 1st Nepalese Constituent Assembly and was elected from the party list.
The first Bagmati Provincial Assembly was elected by the 2017 provincial elections. 110 members were elected to the assembly,66 of whom were elected through direct elections and 44 of whom were elected through the party list proportional representation system. The term of the assembly started on 1 February 2018 and ended in September 2022. Dormani Poudel and Astalaxmi Shakya served as the chief ministers from the CPN and Rajendra Prasad Pandey served as chief minister from CPN during the term of the assembly. Sanu Kumar Shrestha served as the speaker of the assembly and Radhika Tamang served as the deputy speaker.
