Devendra Satpathy was a hero of India's freedom struggle. He was a member of the Prajamandal movement. He was a lead member of Sri. Aurobindo Ashram In the 1971 election he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Dhenkanal in Odisha.He was a famed Parliamentarian. His spouse,Smt Nandini Satpathy,was the first woman Chief Minister of Odisha from Dhenkanal.He was former editor of Odia daily newspaper,Dharitri. He was a student at Christ College in Cuttack.. Odisha,formerly Orissa,is an Indian state located in Eastern India. It is the eighth-largest state by area,and the eleventh-largest by population,with over 41 million inhabitants. The state also has the third-largest population of Scheduled Tribes in India. Kalinga is a historical region of India. It is generally defined as the eastern coastal region between the Ganges and the Godavari rivers,although its boundaries have fluctuated with the territory of its rulers. The core territory of Kalinga now encompasses all of Odisha and some part of northern Andhra Pradesh. At its widest extent,the Kalinga region also included parts of present-day Chhattisgarh,extending up to Amarkantak in the west. In the ancient period it extended until the bank of the Ganges river.

The Eastern Ganga dynasty were a large medieval era Indian royal Hindu dynasty that reigned from Kalinga from as early as the 5th century to the mid 20th century. Eastern Gangas ruled much of the modern region of Odisha in three different phases by the passage of time,known as Early Eastern Gangas (493–1077),Imperial Eastern Gangas (1077–1436) and Khemundi Gangas (1436–1947). They are known as "Eastern Gangas" to distinguish them from the Western Gangas who ruled over Karnataka. The territory ruled by the dynasty consisted of the whole of the modern-day Indian state of Odisha,as well as major parts of north Andhra Pradesh,parts of Chhattisgarh and some southern districts of West Bengal. Odia language got official status in their regime following the evolution of the language from Odra Prakrit. The early rulers of the dynasty ruled from Dantapuram;the capital was later moved to Kalinganagara,and ultimately to Kataka and then to Paralakhemundi.

Ramesh Prasad Mohapatra was an Indian archaeologist and scholar on Odia Studies. He served as curator for archaeology at the Odisha State Museum from 1963 to 1989 and made significant contributions to historical research,especially in the fields of archaeology,art history,religion,and other aspects of Odia cultural history.
Enḍuri Piṭhā,also known as Haḷadi Patra Piṭhā,is a variety of pitha made in the Indian state of Odisha mostly in the northern,eastern and central region. Ingredients are turmeric leaves,black gram,rice flour,coconut or Chhena,jaggery,black pepper. Enduri is mostly prepared during Prathamastami and Manabasa Gurubara. It is a light snack and has laxative effect because of the turmeric leaves that are used to wrap the pitha. Traditionally,enduri used to be made by steaming in large earthen pots. Enduri is one of the many other pithas offered to Jagannath in the Jagannath Temple,Puri for "Sakala dhupa" (breakfast).

Arasavalli Sun Temple is a temple for Lord Surya,the solar deity,at Arasavalli in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in Arasavalli Village 1 km east of Srikakulam. It is believed that the temple was built in 7th century CE by King Devendra Varma,a great ruler of Eastern Ganga Dynasty of Kalinga. The present structure is largely a result of 18th-century renovations. The temple was built in Rekha deula style of Kalinga Architecture like Puri Jagannath temple of Odisha. This temple is considered one of the oldest sun temples in India. The temple is one of the two major temples who worship Lord Surya in India. The other two are the Konark Sun Temple,Odisha and Martand Sun Temple,Jammu and Kashmir.
Brajanath Badajena was an Odia poet best known for his historical ballad Samara Taranga. He was born in Dhenkanal. Brajanath was patronized by several local rulers. His work was Samara Taranga appreciated the king of Dhenkanal for which he was given the title of Badajena.
Manipura,also known as Manalura,is a kingdom mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. According to the epic,it was located near a sea-shore,the Mahendra Mountains and the Kalinga Kingdom. Arjuna—one of the five Pandava brothers—visited Manipura and married Chitrangada,the princess of the kingdom. They had a son named Babruvahana who later ruled it.
