The couple portrayed has a love/hate relationship, an ambivalence that is reflected in their sexual relation where the man adopts an abusive stance towards the woman. In 2013 Garcíadiego received the Salvador Toscano prize, awarded by the Cineteca Nacional, the Fundación Carmen Toscano and the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences.

On 17 September 2015 it was selected to represent Mexico for the Foreign Language Oscar but it was not nominated.
