Early life and high school

Royal attended Pickerington High School Central in Pickerington, Ohio. [1] As a junior, he averaged 19.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists and was named first-team all-state, as he led his school to a state title. [2] Royal was then named Ohio Mr. Basketball as a senior. [3] Coming out of high school, Royal was rated as a four-star recruit and held offers from schools such as Michigan State, Marquette, Penn State, Alabama, and Ohio State. [4] [5] Ultimately, Royal committed to play college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes. [6] [7]

College career

On February 25, 2024, Royal had a breakout game leading the Buckeyes in scoring with 14 points, while also adding two rebounds and two steals, as he helped the Buckeyes beat Michigan State. [8] In his first collegiate season, he appeared in 33 games and averaged 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 11.2 minutes of play. [9] [10] On November 19, 2024, Royal recorded his first career double-double, totaling 20 points and 12 rebounds, in a blowout win over Evansville. [11]
