Devour is a co-op PvE horror video game created by developers Straight Back Games, playable by between 1 and 4 players. The game was released in 2021, with four more maps having been released as of 2023.
The game is set in the same universe as a 2020 PC game called The Watchers. Players control members of a demonic cult called the Watchers of Azazel who become aware that their leader Anna (or another cult member in other maps) is trying to raise the goat demon. Either finding or knowing that Azazel has possessed their comrade, the other members who arrive attempt to stop them and undo or prevent damage. [1]
The core mechanic of Devour is the destruction of ten totems (whether goats, eggs, or rats). For the original two maps "The Farmhouse" and "The Asylum", as well as the fifth map "The Slaughterhouse" this takes the form of finding a fuel item and then destroying the totem with it. For the later maps "Inn" and "Town", the totems themselves must be prepared at one location before being destroyed at another, slowing progress. [2]
Threats to the player come in two forms - the primary demon of the specific map and swarms of lesser hostiles. The primary demon moves around the full map, before switching into pursuit of a player. If successful, the player is downed and will be dragged to a random location on the map (The Farmhouse and The Asylum), be dragged to a specific location (The Inn), or be outright killed (The Town and The Slaughterhouse). On The Town and The Slaughterhouse, dead players will be banished to a different dimension, and will have to fight off the lesser demons to survive. Once they kill enough of them, they will be sent back to the main map. The speed, rate of pursuit, and difficulty to stagger, all increase as totems are destroyed. The lesser hostiles spawn in randomly across the map. Unlike the primary demon, they require several seconds of contact to down a player and can be directly destroyed by the player. As totems are destroyed, spawn rate increases significantly. In the event that all party members are simultaneously downed, the game is lost. [3]
Players can resist being downed by fleeing hostiles or by use of the UV-mode of the flashlight each carries. This is a finite, recharging resource that destroys lesser hostiles and can stagger the primary demon. The amount of time required to stagger the primary demon increases over time. [3]
There are additional items found around each map. These include keys to open up the map, with some rooms not being available until one or more totems are destroyed. It also includes medkits to resuscitate downed party members and batteries as an additional UV source. [2]
Devour was created by Joe Fender & Luke Fanning, the two developers of indie game studio Straight Back Games as their second game. Originally released on the 28th January 2021 with the single map "Farmhouse", four additional free maps have been released, starting with the rat-themed Asylum on April 21, 2021.
Reception for the game has been generally positive, with particular focus on its frightening atmosphere, good value, and positive referrals to Phasmophobia , [3] [4] which entered early access four months prior to the release of Devour. Gamesradar approved of its "highly stressful, fast-paced, downright scary experience". [5]
In the Hebrew Bible, the name Azazel represents a desolate place where a scapegoat bearing the sins of the Jews was sent during Yom Kippur. During the late Second Temple period, Azazel came to be viewed as a fallen angel responsible for introducing humans to forbidden knowledge, as described in the Book of Enoch. Denzel Washington plays a Philadelphia police detective who is investigating occult murders committed by an apparent copycat killer. John Goodman, Donald Sutherland, Embeth Davidtz, James Gandolfini and Elias Koteas also star. Warner Bros. released Fallen on January 16, 1998. Despite the movie’s underperformance at the box office, Fallen gained a cult following and is considered one of Washington’s most underrated films.

Azazel is a fictional character that appears on The CW Television Network's drama and horror television series Supernatural. He serves as the main antagonist during the first two seasons. As a demon Prince of Hell, he feeds his blood to infants so that they will grow up to develop demonic abilities, while also manipulating and deceiving others into carrying out his ambitions, often through self-serving and one-sided deals of his construction. His goal of using one such child to release Lucifer is not revealed until much later in the series. Azazel is referred to by nicknames such as "The Yellow-Eyed Demon," or "Yellow Eyes" throughout the first two seasons, his true name not being revealed until the third season. Due to the character's demonic nature of taking different hosts, Azazel has been played by numerous actors but Fredric Lehne is the main default portrayer. All the incarnations have maintained his sadistic sense of humor and irony. Azazel's popularity and importance towards the franchise even led him to be the main antagonist and the analogue to Lucifer in the anime adaptation, as the "Yellow-Eyed Demon," in reference to the nickname he had in the original first two seasons.

"No Rest for the Wicked" is the sixteenth and final episode of the third season of The CW television series Supernatural, and the show's sixtieth episode overall. Written by series creator Eric Kripke and directed by Kim Manners, the episode was first broadcast on May 15, 2008. The narrative follows the series' protagonists Sam and Dean Winchester —brothers who travel the continental United States hunting supernatural creatures—as they attempt to save the latter's soul from damnation. "All Hell Breaks Loose" is the joint title for the two-part second-season finale of The CW television series Supernatural. It consists of the twenty-first and twenty-second episodes of the second season. "Part One" was first broadcast on May 10, 2007, and the second part aired the following week on May 17, 2007. The narrative follows series protagonist Sam Winchester —a young man who travels the continental United States with his brother Dean hunting supernatural creatures—as he is abducted by series villain Azazel and sent to an abandoned town. Azazel intends to find a leader for his demon army by having Sam and other psychic children like him fight to the death. Sam is eventually killed, but is resurrected after Dean sells his soul. The sole survivor, Jake Talley, is sent by Azazel to a cemetery protected against demons, where he opens a gateway to Hell. At the end of the episode, Azazel is finally killed by Dean with the mystical Colt revolver, but not before hundreds of demons are released into the world.
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is a rail shooter developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, released on 13 October 2016 worldwide for PlayStation VR headset on PlayStation 4. It is a direct spin-off from Until Dawn and features the player riding a horror-themed roller coaster while shooting at inanimate objects and live enemies.
Dusk is a 2018 first person shooter created by American developer David Szymanski and published by New Blood Interactive for Windows, Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game is produced by Dave Oshry, who previously co-directed the 2013 remake of Rise of the Triad.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 is a platform video game developed and published by Inti Creates. It was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, on July 10, 2020. It is the third game in the Bloodstained series and a direct sequel to Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, itself a spin-off of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The game's graphics and gameplay are done in an 8-bit retro style meant to mimic the early Castlevania games.
Faith is a survival horror video game developed by Airdorf Games for Windows. The game consists of three chapters; the first two were self-published by Airdorf Games in October 2017 and February 2019 respectively, while the third was published by New Blood Interactive in October 2022 as part of Faith: The Unholy Trinity, a compilation of all three chapters with additional features. The game uses retro graphics similar to the graphics of an Apple II or Atari 2600.
Infernax is a 2D dark fantasy Metroidvania developed by Berzerk Studio and published by The Arcade Crew. It was released on February 14, 2022, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game follows the young Duke Alcedor, who finds his village overrun by monsters upon returning from the Crusades. Infernax received generally favorable reviews. An update to the game, Deux or Die, was released on April 5, 2023, in which another player can join in as Cervul the Squire.
