Dheeraj Sharma is a professor of management and director of Indian Institute of Management Rohtak.

He has been director of the Indian Institute of Management Rohtak since 2017, [1] [2] [3] [4]

Sharma has advised the prisons department of Punjab, state of Gujarat and state of Delhi on marketing of goods made by prisoners and modernisation of jails, [5] [6] and has advised the Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force on stress avoidance, perception management, and effectiveness. [7]

Sharma is member of economic advisory council of Haryana [8] and a member of the task force for prospective and planning under the aegis of Haryana Governance Reforms Authority Haryana. [9]

In 2022, the Government of India informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that Sharma, the director of IIM Rohtak, did not meet the role’s educational requirements and had misrepresented his qualifications. [10] The court issued a show cause notice on 28 March 2022, alleging that Sharma failed to submit a graduation degree for nearly five years and demanded an explanation. While the court initially stayed action against him after his April 2022 plea, it lifted this stay on 22 October 2024, allowing the government to proceed with a final order and take appropriate action. [11] [12]

There are lawsuits pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Courts and the Rohtak District Court against him, involving various cases, including sexual harassment [13] and being unsuited for the office of director. [14] [15]

In January 2024, following amendments to the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, the Ministry of Education initiated an inquiry into IIM-Rohtak's finances. Allegations include the "illegal" transfer of ₹2 crore (US$240,000) to the director's account as "variable pay." The ministry assigned its Principal Chief Controller of Accounts to investigate embezzlement claims against Sharma, along with concerns about excessive student fees. [16] [17]

He has made sporadic appearances for the Indian cricket team. He also played for Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2012. He was a member of the Indian team that won the 2007 inaugural ICC T20 World Cup, where in the final, he took the winning wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq. During his time with Chennai in the IPL, he was a part of the team that won the 2010 and 2011 tournaments.

This under-investigation scam pertains to acquisition of 700 acre land in 3 villages near Kharkhoda in Sonepat district for the Industrial Model Township.. Punjab and Haryana High Court in March 2013 and the Supreme Court of India in May 2016 had cancelled the government's decision to release land to the private builder. Two senior officials in then Chief Minister Hooda's office were indicted for allegedly favouring the developers. Subsequently, in 2018 the Government of Haryana referred the case to CBI to investigate the against Hooda and others.

Haryana Lokayukta is the Parliamentary Ombudsman for the state of Haryana (India). It is a high level statutory functionary, created to address grievances of the public against ministers, legislators, administration and public servants in issues related to misuse of power, mal-administration and corruption. It was first formed under the Haryana Lokayukta and Deputy Lokayukta Act-2002, and approved by the president of India. The passage of Lokpal and Lokayukta's Act,2013 in Parliament had become law from 16 January 2014 and requires each state to appoint its Lokayukta within a year. A bench of Lokayukta should consist of judicial and non-judicial members. An Upa-Lokayukta is a deputy to Lokayukta and assists him in his work and acts in-charge Lokayukta in case the position fells vacant before time.
