Di Cavalcanti, or simply Di, is a 1977 Brazilian documentary short film by Glauber Rocha, about the funeral of the internationally renowned painter Di Cavalcanti. [1] [2] [3]
In the 2010s it was voted number 88 on the Abraccine Top 100 Brazilian films list [4] and also number 9 in its documentary list. [5]
After hearing news on the radio about the death of Di Cavalcanti, filmmaker Glauber Rocha gathered a small film crew to record the painter's funeral and burial, held respectively in the lobby of the Museum of Modern Art and São João Batista cemetery, both in the Rio de Janeiro.
The film was first shown on March 11, 1977 during a session at the Modern Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro, along with the feature film "Cabeças Cortadas", also by Glauber, but shortly after its exhibition, Elizabeth Di Cavalcanti (the painter's adopted daughter) asked the Brazilian Court to ban the exhibition of the short film. The film was also screened at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Special Jury Prize for Best Short Film. [7] But in 1979, Elizabeth succeeded in court that the film was banned from being shown in Brazilian territory. [6]
In 2004, Glauber's family members made the work available on the Internet under the subtitle "Ninguém assistiu ao formidável enterro de sua quimera, somente a ingratidão essa pantera,foi sua companhia inseparável" ("No one watched the formidable Burial of your last chimera. Only the Ingratitude - this panther"). [8]

Glauber de Andrade Rocha was a Brazilian film director, actor and screenwriter. He was one of the most influential moviemakers of Brazilian cinema and a key figure of Cinema Novo. His films Black God, White Devil and Entranced Earth are often considered to be two of the greatest achievements in Brazilian cinematic history, being selected by Abraccine as, respectively, the second and fifth best Brazilian films of all-time. Rocha also the distinction of having the most films on Abraccine's list: 5 films.

Antonio das Mortes is a 1969 Brazilian western film directed by Glauber Rocha. It is often cited as the last installment of Rocha's film trilogy, preceded by Black God, White Devil and Entranced Earth. O Cangaceiro is a 1953 Brazilian adventure western film directed by Lima Barreto. After some reluctance by its studio Vera Cruz, Barreto shot it in 1952. In 2015, the Brazilian Film Critics Association (Abraccine) published a list with the 100 best Brazilian films ever according to the votes of its members. This poll was the basis for a book named The 100 Best Brazilian Films, published in 2016. The idea of the ranking and the book was suggested by publisher Letramento, with whom Abraccine and television network Canal Brasil co-released the book. The ranking was done based on individual lists done by Abraccine's 100 critics, who initially mentioned 379 films. The full list was first made available to the public on 26 November 2015, and the book was released on 1 September 2016.
