Diana Monserrat Vicezar Torres (born 2001[ citation needed ]) is a Paraguayan digital entrepreneur and community activist, who is the first person from their country to hold an internship at Meta. She is the recipient of an Asuncion Youth Excellence Award, Global Teen Leader Award, Diana Award and Outstanding Young People of Paraguay Award. [1]

Career

In 2017, aged 16, [1] Vicezar established Mymba Rayhu, a community-based organisation designed to tackle elements of the sustainability and animal welfare. [2] Paraguay has a large issue with abandoned dogs, as well as plastic pollution, so Vicezar established Mymba Rayhu to build shelter for these free-ranging dogs using wholly recycled materials, especially plastics. [2] By 2019 it had three international chapters. [1]

Vicezar established Mapis an online career platform, whilst she was a student at Pitzer College. [3] [4] The platform aimed to support international students to access career opportunities in the United States of America. [5] Its beta-version launched in 2022, [3] and Vicezar featured in Forbes as a result. [6] The same year she became the first Paraguayan to work as an intern at Meta. [4] [7] In 2023, whilst studying at University College Cork, Vicezar launched the podcast 'La Sociedad', whilst is the first podcast to record and share the experiences of Hispanic and Latin-American students in Ireland. [8]

In 2021 she represented Paraguay at the #Youth4Climate conference. [9]

Personal life

Vicezar is originally from Asunción. [4] She credits much of her success abroad due to an early opportunity to learn English in the USA. [10]

Her novel Los nudos del silencio has been translated into French, Italian, and English. On 16 December 2011, Ferrer was awarded Paraguay's National Prize for Literature by President Fernando Lugo. She is married with four children.

Miss Paraguay is a national beauty pageant in Paraguay established in 1915. It currently selects Paraguay's representatives for the Miss Intercontinental and Reinado Internacional del Café pageants.

Deportivo Recoleta, or simply known as Recoleta, is a Paraguayan association football club from the neighbourhood of the same name, in Asunción; founded in 1931. It will play the Paraguayan Primera División after winning the 2024 Paraguayan División Intermedia championship.

Carlos Alberto Filizzola Pallarés is a Paraguayan physician, labor unionist and politician who served as mayor of Asunción from 1991 to 1996, being the first one to be democratically elected. He later served four terms as senator, from 2003 to 2011 and again from 2012 to 2023, having been appointed Minister of the Interior in the meantime, under the presidency of Fernando Lugo. He was also the President of the Senate from 2005 to 2006 and the running mate of Domingo Laíno in the 1998 presidential election.

Berta Rojas is a Paraguayan classical guitarist. She was awarded a Latin Grammy for her album "Legado" (2022) in the category of "Best Classical Album". The same album received another statuette for "Best Contemporary Classical Contemporary Composition" for Anido's Portrait, written by Sergio Assad. She has been nominated to the Latin Grammy on three other occasions: In 2012 she was nominated for Best Instrumental Album in the Latin Grammys for her album "Día y Medio " which she recorded with Paquito D'Rivera. For her album "Salsa Roja", she was nominated at the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards in the category of Best Classical Album. She got her third nomination in the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards for Best Tango Album for her album "History of Tango", which she recorded with the iconic Camerata Bariloche.

Trece is a Paraguayan free-to-air television network launched in 1981. It is the head station of the JBB Group, which as of 11 January 2016 adopted this name. Channel 13 was the second television station to start nationwide broadcasts, after SNT, the first to broadcast entirely in color and the fourth television station to be set up in Paraguay overall including SNT's two inland affiliates that started shortly before Channel 13's operations started. In the 2010s, the channel changed owners twice eventually becoming a sister channel to Unicanal, and for a brief period between 2016 and 2019, it was known as RPC.

Nadia Tamara Ferreira is a Paraguayan fashion model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Paraguay 2021. As Miss Universe Paraguay, Ferreira represented Paraguay at Miss Universe 2021, where she placed as the first runner-up. Ferreira had previously been crowned Miss Teen Universe Paraguay 2015, and placed as the third runner-up at Miss Teen Universe 2015.

Margarita Morselli is an artist who is considered a pioneer in the use of a video as a form of artistic expression in Paraguay. The work she presented was on abstraction with references to real spaces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ana Lucrecia Taglioretti</span> Paraguayan violinist (1995–2020)

Ana Lucrecia Taglioretti was a Paraguayan violinist and prodigy. Born blind, Taglioretti started studying music at the age of five, beginning her education on the piano, later studying singing and finally specializing in the violin. She joined the National Symphonic Orchestra of Paraguay in April 2014, and was invited several times to participate in Teletón Paraguay telethons, as well as United Nations Paraguay and Global Infancia events. Taglioretti also participated in both national and international musical festivals and performed with artists such as Carlos Vives, Rolando Chaparro and Lizza Bogado. On 23 September 2019 Taglioretti, along with other National Symphonic Orchestra musicians, participated in a benefit concert to help Paraguayan Chaco families affected by drought and wildfires. Taglioretti was found dead on the afternoon of 9 January 2020 in the apartment where she lived. Her autopsy showed she had not suffered a violent death.

Miss Grand Paraguay is an annual female beauty pageant based in Asunción of Paraguay, founded in 2017 by Gabriel Roman of MGM Productions, aiming to select the country representatives to compete in various international pageants including its parent pageant, Miss Grand International, in which Paraguay won the main title once in 2018, by Clara Sosa of Asunción, and was placed among the Top 20 semifinalists three times in 2017, 2019 and 2022 by Lía Ashmore, Milena Rodríguez and Agatha León, respectively.
