The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Cowgirls are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Oklahoma State University, located in Stillwater. The program's mascot is a cowboy named Pistol Pete. Oklahoma State participates at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The university's current athletic director is Chad Weiberg, who replaced the retiring Mike Holder on July 1, 2021. Tim Siegel is a former professional tennis player and collegiate tennis coach. Kurt John Budke was an American college basketball coach. Budke was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. His final coaching job was as the head coach for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls basketball women's team from 2005 until his death in an aviation accident.

Pete Herrmann is an American retired basketball coach. He served as the head basketball coach at the United States Naval Academy from 1986 to 1992 and Young Harris College from 2010 to 2018. He was also the interim head men's basketball coach at the University of Georgia for the final 12 games of the 2008–09 season following the firing of Dennis Felton. Herrmann restarted the basketball program at Young Harris in 2010–11 after a 40-year hiatus. At Navy he coached future National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star and Olympian David Robinson.

He is the son of college basketball coach Clarence Iba and nephew of college basketball coach Hank Iba.

They received an at-large bid of the NCAA women's basketball tournament where they defeated Syracuse in the first round before losing to Mississippi State in the second round.
