Dara Shikoh, also known as Dara Shukoh, was the eldest son and heir-apparent of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Dara was designated with the title Padshahzada-i-Buzurg Martaba and was favoured as a successor by his father and his elder sister, Princess Jahanara Begum. In the war of succession which ensued after Shah Jahan's illness in 1657, Dara was defeated by his younger brother Prince Muhiuddin. Demetrios I, also Dimitrios I or Demetrius I, born Demetrios Papadopoulos was, as a successor to St. Andrew, the 269th Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from July 16, 1972, to October 2, 1991, serving as the spiritual leader of 300 million Eastern Orthodox Christians. Before his election as patriarch, he served as the metropolitan bishop of Imvros. He was born and died in Constantinopole, in modern-day Turkey.

He was a prominent member of the Evangelical church in Greece. He founded the Greek newspaper Empros. Dimitrios was from a prominent Greek American family and his father was the well-known author and doctor Michael D. Kalopothakis. Both his sisters became very important. Maria Kalapothakes was the first female doctor in modern Greece. His other sister Dafne Kalapothakes became a well-known archeologist. Their father owned a publishing company that published many different publications in Greece. Dimitrios and his father helped found the Hellenic Macedonian Committee. Dimitrios played a critical role in the Paris Peace Conference. He wrote an important book entitled Greece Before the Conference. The book attracted the attention of Eleftherios Venizelos who appointed Dimitrios Director of the Press Bureau, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over eleven years.
