The Dine Out Vancouver Festival, organized by Destination Vancouver, is a citywide food festival held in Vancouver. It is the largest event of its type in Canada, [1] and attracts more than 100,000 locals and tourists to Vancouver's restaurants for 17 days each year.
The event allows diners to sample prix-fixe menus [2] [3] with many menus also featuring suggested BC VQA wine pairings.
The Dine Out Vancouver Festival was first launched in January 2002 [4] as a way to drive business to local restaurants during the industry's low season. [5] Since then, the number of participating restaurants has increased as the festival has gained popularity.
In 2014, the festival generated more than $3.5 million in restaurant revenue. [6] From 57 restaurants in 2003, participation in the event grew to 277 restaurants by 2015.
Dine Out Vancouver has grown in popularity each year and now has a full 17-day schedule of culinary-themed events and experiences. But the event has faced some difficulties, such as long lines and slow service at the more popular restaurants. [7]
The popularity of Asian restaurants has grown through exposure during the festival. [8]

A burrito in Mexico is, historically, a regional name, among others, for what is known as a taco, a tortilla filled with food, in other parts of the country. The term burrito was regional, specifically from Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacán, San Luis Potosí and Sinaloa, for what is known as a taco in Mexico City and surrounding areas, and codzito in Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Due to the cultural influence of Mexico City, the term taco became the default, and the meaning of terms like burrito and codzito were forgotten, leading many people to create new meanings and folk histories. In modern times, it is considered by many as a different dish in Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine that took form in Ciudad Juárez, consisting of a flour tortilla wrapped into a sealed cylindrical shape around various ingredients. In Central and Southern Mexico, burritos are still considered tacos, and are known as “tacos de harina”. The tortilla is sometimes lightly grilled or steamed to soften it, make it more pliable, and allow it to adhere to itself. Burritos are often eaten by hand, as their tight wrapping keeps the ingredients together. Burritos can also be served "wet", i.e., covered in a savory and spicy sauce, when they would be eaten with a fork and knife.
Schwa is an upscale restaurant run by chef-owner Michael Carlson and chef de cuisine Papi Chulo. It is located on Ashland Avenue in Wicker Park, Chicago, and is known for its unconventional approach to foodservice. Simple table settings match the building's drab exterior and its tiny 26-seat interior. The restaurant employs no support staff of any kind. Chefs interact directly with customers and are encouraged to act as silly as they wish, as long as they produce top quality food.
The Beijinger is a free monthly English language listings and entertainment website and magazine produced by True Run Media in Beijing, China. It was founded in October 2001, as that's Beijing. In June 2008, True Run Media was required to rename that's Beijing to The Beijinger because of trademark issues. A newly created and unrelated that's Beijing magazine was launched under the ownership of China Electric Media, and China International Press.
Tofino is a town of approximately 2,516 residents on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The District of Tofino is located at the western terminus of Highway 4 on the tip of the Esowista Peninsula at the southern edge of Clayoquot Sound. It is situated in the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations and is called Načiks in the Nuu-chah-nulth language.
RIA was an American restaurant in Chicago, Illinois. Located in the Waldorf Astoria Chicago, it originally opened in 2009, serving upscale French cuisine. RIA was popular with critics, earning many awards, including two Michelin stars. After losing executive chef Jason McLeod in 2011, RIA closed on July 27, 2012, after replacement Danny Grant left his restaurant position.
Mosconi is an Italian restaurant located at 13 rue Munster in the Grund district of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, overlooking the river Alzette. Headed by chef Ilario Mosconi, formerly from Lombardy, Italy, it is one of the Relais & Châteaux series of hotels and gourmet restaurants from around the world. The menu is an eight-course set menu of pasta dishes mainly prepared with imported Italian ingredients. Mosconi became the first Italian restaurant to receive a Michelin star in Benelux. From 2005 to 2014, it had two Michelin stars, but the rating has since dropped to one star.
Frontier Restaurant is a landmark New Mexican cuisine restaurant, located near the main campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is one of the city's most popular restaurants, serving about 4,000 customers per day in 2000, and is open daily from 5 am to 12 am. The restaurant has five dining rooms covering a total of 8,000 square feet (740 m2) and is decorated with over 100 Western-themed artworks, including several portraits of John Wayne, referencing the nickname that both he and the city of Albuquerque share, “The Duke” and “The Duke City”.
The Bookworm is a China-based literary organization with three bookstores by the same name in Beijing, Chengdu and Suzhou. As of November 2019 all locations have closed. In addition to selling books, The Bookworm is a restaurant, cafe, event space and library with more than 50,000 English and Chinese titles. Lonely Planet called it one of the “world’s greatest bookshops.”
