Immortal is a Norwegian black metal band from Bergen. The group was founded in 1991 by frontman and guitarist Abbath Doom Occulta and guitarist Demonaz Doom Occulta. The pair worked with various drummers, and were later joined by former drummer Horgh in 1996.

He is a graduate of musical school in the first and second degree, and attended the Academy of Music in Kraków as an accordionist.

The release was preceded by the single "Angel of Death" which was released on 10 April 2002. The album was nominated for a Fryderyk Award in the category 'Heavy Metal Album of the Year '. Decapitated are recognized as one of the death metal's most widely respected bands and one of the finest exponents of technical death metal. The band earned an international fan base in the underground music community and became an innovating act in the modern death metal genre.

It is the band's first album to feature drummer James Stewart, and their last to feature singer Rafał "Rasta" Piotrowski before departing the band in October 2024.
