Dirk Leo Van der Maelen (born 14 March 1953) is a Belgian politician for the SP.A.
Van der Maelen was born in Geraardsbergen. He has been a member of the Chamber of Representatives since 1989,where he specialised himself in finances and defence. Between 1999 and 2007 he served as faction leader of his party. Van der Maelen is also a member of the town council of his hometown Geraardsbergen. In 2010 the Flemish newspaper De Morgen called him the best parliamentarian of the previous legislature,with a score of 4.5/5.

Geraardsbergen is a city and municipality located in the Denderstreek and in the Flemish Ardennes, the hilly southern part of the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Geraardsbergen proper and the following towns:
The Tour of Flanders, formerly the Tour of Flanders for Women, is an annual road bicycle racing event in Flanders, Belgium, held in early April. It is held on the same day as the men's race, on much of the same roads but at a shorter distance. Dutch riders Mirjam Melchers, Annemiek van Vleuten, Belgian Lotte Kopecky and German Judith Arndt hold the record with two wins each. Lotte Kopecky won the most recent edition in 2023.
Bernard Van de Kerckhove was a Belgian professional road bicycle racer from 1962 to 1971. The highlights of his career were stage win in the 1964 Tour de France, which resulted in him wearing the yellow jersey for two stages. Then again in the 1965 Tour de France he won stage two and wore the jersey for one day. He would reclaim the jersey in this Tour, and wear it for two more days at the beginning of the 2nd week.
The Muur van Geraardsbergen is a steep, narrow road with cobblestones in Geraardsbergen, Belgium. It is also known as Kapelmuur, Muur-Kapelmuur or simply Muur. The hill starts near the river Dender at 18 m and reaches the top of the Oudenberg at 110 m after 1,075 m at 9.3 per cent. This climb is often part of the Tour of Flanders professional cycling race.

Gracie Elvin is an Australian former racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2012 and 2020, for the Faren–Honda Team and Mitchelton–Scott. Elvin is a two-time winner of the Australian National Road Race Championships, with victories in 2013 and 2014, and the first Australian rider to record a podium finish at the Tour of Flanders for Women, with second in 2017.

The 53rd running of the Tour of Flanders cycling race in Belgium was held on Sunday 30 March 1969. Belgian cycling legend Eddy Merckx won ahead of Italians Felice Gimondi and Marino Basso, winning his first of two in the Flemish classic. The race started in Ghent and finished in Gentbrugge.
The 87th running of the Tour of Flanders cycling race in Belgium was held on Sunday 6 April 2003. Belgian Peter Van Petegem won his second victory in the monument classic. The race started in Bruges and finished in Meerbeke (Ninove).
The 70th running of the Tour of Flanders cycling race was held on 6 April 1986. It was won by Dutch rider Adrie van der Poel in a four-man sprint before Ireland's Sean Kelly.
The 72nd running of the Tour of Flanders cycling classic was held on 3 April 1988. It was won by Eddy Planckaert in a two-man sprint with Australian Phil Anderson. 88 of 197 starters finished the race.
The 2018 Tour of Flanders for Women was the 15th running of the Tour of Flanders for Women, a women's bicycle race in Belgium. It was held on 1 April 2018, as the fifth race of the 2018 UCI Women's World Tour. Anna van der Breggen won the race with an attack just after the Kruisberg, at 27 km from the finish. Amy Pieters won the sprint for second place, at more than a minute from van der Breggen. Annemiek van Vleuten rounded out the entirely Dutch podium.
The 16th running of the Tour of Flanders for Women, a women's cycling race in Belgium, was held on 7 April 2019. It was the sixth event of the 2019 UCI Women's World Tour. Anna van der Breggen was the defending champion. The race was won by Marta Bastianelli.
