The Divergent Blade is a two-door sports car manufactured by Divergent Technologies, and designed by Kevin Czinger. The Blade is the first automobile to use 3D printing to form the body and chassis. The car is currently at the prototype stage.

Usage of 3D printing

The use of 3D construction further reduces the expense of building factories and pollution from them, with a more compact and cheaper process. [1] This also can lower capital investment and production costs. [2]

Design

The car's design is bobsled-like, allowing for better weight distribution. The remaining areas would be filled by aerodynamic features and safety parts.

Specifications

The car contains a 2.4-liter 4B11T turbocharged inline-four derived from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. The engine has been modified by American tuning house AMS, which meant bore and stroke was increased by 400cc, increasing the liters to 2.4. The modifications have increased to 720 hp (537 kW; 730 PS). [3]

The car uses a 3D printed aluminum alloy material for the chassis and body. [3] For the chassis, 3D printed structural joints (in which Divergent calls NODES) are used to construct the basis of the interior, which is then completed by metal parts made by computer algorithm. [4] Because of the use of a 3D printed aluminum material, the overall weight is drastically reduced, sitting at 630 kg (1,389 lb). The chassis weighs 46 kg (101 lb). [5]

The horsepower and weight create a power-to-weight ratio of 1,142.8 hp (852 kW; 1,159 PS) per ton. [5] 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) is a reported 2.2 seconds. [6]

The 3D construction makes the car de-materialized, making the car greener (less resource use and pollution made by manufacturing), lighter (up to 90% lighter than traditional vehicles with more strength and durability), safer (a strong and light car causes less wear and fewer fatalities), and made local (cars built by smaller local groups lowers costs, time, and increase quality). [7]

The De Tomaso Pantera is a mid-engine sports car produced by Italian automobile manufacturer De Tomaso from 1971 to 1992. Italian for "Panther", the Pantera was the automaker's most popular model, with over 7,000 manufactured over its twenty-year production run. More than three quarters of the production was sold by American Lincoln-Mercury dealers from 1972 to 1975; after this agreement ended De Tomaso kept manufacturing the car in ever smaller numbers into the early 1990s.

It is named after Huayra-tata, a Quechua wind god. The Huayra was named "The Hypercar of the Year 2012" by Top Gear magazine. On 11 February 2015 it was reported that the Pagani Huayra has been sold out. The Huayra was limited to just 100 units as part of Pagani's agreement with engine supplier Mercedes-AMG.

Cura (software) 3D printer software

Cura is an open source slicing application for 3D printers. It was created by David Brahm who was later employed by Ultimaker, a 3D printer manufacturing company, to maintain the software. Cura is available under LGPLv3 license. Cura was initially released under the open source Affero General Public License version 3, but on 28 September 2017 the license was changed to LGPLv3. This change allowed for more integration with third-party CAD applications. Development is hosted on GitHub. Ultimaker Cura is used by over one million users worldwide and handles 1.4 million print jobs per week. It is the preferred 3D printing software for Ultimaker 3D printers, but it can be used with other printers as well.

Techrules Ren Motor vehicle

The Techrules Ren is a single-door, high-performance sports car manufactured by Techrules, and designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro and Giorgetto Giugiaro of GFG Style. At its launch, it will become the first sports car to contain a turbine engine. This is also the first production sports car from Techrules. Expectations for the vehicle's construction are 10 (hand-built) per year.

The Aria FXE is an American mid-engined sports car manufactured by American automotive design and engineering company Aria Group. The car is loosely named after Ed Taylor, former Vice President of Design at General Motors. The FXE is Aria's first production car, and was unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Zenvo TS1 GT Grand touring sports car manufactured by Danish automobile manufacturer Zenvo

The Zenvo TS1 GT is a limited production sports car manufactured by Danish automobile manufacturer Zenvo Automotive. It was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Though the TS1 GT shares a similar chassis and body with its predecessor, the ST1, its new powertrain and upgraded interior earn it a new model designation along with the 'grand tourer' qualification. The production of the car is planned to be limited at 5 units per year, an increase from the limited 15-car total production run of its predecessor.

The Audi R8 is the second generation of the R8 sports car manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Audi. The Type 4S is based on the Lamborghini Huracan and shares its platform and engine. The Type 4S was introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and its production began in late 2015.
