Divyang Thakkar is an Indian actor, writer, and director who primarily works in Gujarati cinema. [3]

Early life

Divyang Thakkar was born and raised in Mumbai. His family originates from Mundra town in the Kutch district of Gujarat state. [1] He has studied filmmaking at Whistling Woods.

Career

After acting in a short film titled Kalapaani in 2011, Thakkar received his first major acting role in Gujarati cinema in the 2012 satire movie Kevi Rite Jaish directed by Abhishek Jain. [4] The movie was a critical and commercial success and is also considered to be a "glimmer of hope" for Gujarati cinema. [5] This led to the actor-director duo partnering again in Bey Yaar (2015) which also became a critical and commercial success. [6] [7] He later acted as one of the six leads in an ALTBalaji web series Boygiri (2017). [8] He has now turned writer-director for Yash Raj Films with Ranveer Singh starrer 2022 movie Jayeshbhai Jordaar . [9]

Divyang Thakkar married his Kevi Rite Jaish co-star Veronica Kalpana-Gautam in 2014. [2]

The film is a satire on the fascination and obsession of the Patels' – a Gujarati farmer community – migration to the U.S. Over the last half century, thousands of Patels have migrated to the US and have come to dominate its motel industry. The film stars Divyang Thakkar, Veronica Kalpana-Gautam, Tejal Panchasara, Kenneth Desai, and Anang Desai. The success of the film started a "new wave" in the Gujarati cinema.

Bey Yaar is a 2014 Indian Gujarati-language coming-of-age film directed by Abhishek Jain. The film is about friendship and two friends. The film stars Manoj Joshi, Darshan Jariwala, Divyang Thakkar, Pratik Gandhi, Amit Mistry, Samvedna Suwalka. The film was released on 29 August 2014, to positive reviews and became a box-office success. It completed 50 weeks in theatres. The film was screened at New York Indian Film Festival, becoming the first ever Gujarati film hosted by the festival.
