Michael O'Connell is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. Throughout his 25-year club career, he played for Young Islanders, winning seven South Kerry Championship titles during a golden age for the club; he also played for divisional side South Kerry, and experienced success in the County Championship. At inter-county level, he captained Kerry to win the 1959 All-Ireland Championship; he later claimed a further three All-Ireland medals, as well as Munster Championship and National League successes.
Seán O'Neill is a former Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club John Mitchel and was a member of the Down senior inter-county team from the 1950s until the 1960s. O'Neill is one of only four Down players to win three All-Ireland titles.

John Mitchel GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, established in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, in 1956, and is called after the Irish Patriot John Mitchel. The club had the audacious ambition of winning the Down Senior Football Championship in five years and actually succeeded in four years, winning its first in 1960 and repeating the feat three more times in that decade in 1964, 1967 and 1968. Newry Mitchels forward Seán O'Neill also won 3 All-Ireland Senior Football Championships with Down and was picked on the Gaelic Athletic Association's teams of the Century and Millennium. Mitchels home pitch is Gerry Brown Park, Greenbank. The grounds are named after Gerry Brown, founding member. Gerry managed the Down Senior football team to All-Ireland success in 1968. The club also has club rooms in Kilmorey street, on the County Down side of Newry. Mitchels currently compete in the Down Junior Championship. Club colours are red and white. The club hosts an annual under 10 tournament known as 'The Mitchels Blitz' and 'The under ten All Ireland'.

He was also a member of the senior Kerry county football team from the 1958 until 1965, where he was nicknamed "Eusébio" for his kicking ability. He also played for the Kerry county hurling team. His father was John Joe Sheehy. His brothers - Seán Óg and Paudie - both won All-Ireland titles with Kerry in the 1960s. Sheehy captained Kerry to the All-Ireland final in 1964, but lost out to Galway. He also won an All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship medal in 1961, Kerry's first All Ireland Hurling title since 1891, as well as 3 National Hurling League Div 2 titles.
