Donald Kris Anton (Don Anton) has been a Professor of International Law since 1994. He took up the inaugural Chair of International Law at Griffith University in 2015. [1] Since January 2017, Anton has also been the Director of the Griffith University Law Futures Centre. [2] Prior to coming to Griffith University, Anton was a Professor of Law at The Australian National University, where he taught from 2000-2015. [3] [4]
Anton was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. on March 20, 1960. He graduated from Saint John Vianney High School in Kirkwood, Missouri in 1978. [5] Following High School, Anton worked as a fire fighter with the Pattonville Fire Protection District in North St. Louis County and was a member of International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local Union 2665. [6]
Don received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Missouri in 1983 and a Juris Doctor degree from St. Louis University School of Law in 1986. [7] He clerked for two years with Judge Paul J. Simon of the Missouri Court of Appeals (Eastern District) from 1986-1988 and practiced law in Boise, Idaho with the law firm Elam, Burke & Boyd, as it then was called, from 1988-1991.
Anton began his academic career in 1992, taking up a position as a Research Associate in International Law at Columbia Law School with Professor Louis Henkin. [8] In 2004, Anton moved to Australia to take up a position as a lecturer in Law at the University of Melbourne Law School, where he taught until 1997. In 1997, Anton returned to the practice of law, where he served as the first Director of Policy and as a Senior Solicitor with the Environmental Defender's Office in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. Anton returned to the academe in 2000 as a lecturer at The Australian National University College of Law.
Anton has been a Visiting Professor at a number of law schools around the world. In 2003 and again from 2008-2010 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan Law School. In 2007 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Alabama School of Law. In 2013, he was one of the first Visiting Professors at the University of Yangon's Department of Law following greater openness by the Myanmar government in 2012. [9]
In addition to publishing numerous books and articles, [10] Anton maintains an active international pro bono law practice and has appeared as Counsel in the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, [11] [12] the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, [13] and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He is an Ehliu Root Patron of the American Society of International Law. [14]
Anton was born as a citizen of the United States of America and is still a national of the U.S.A. In 1997, he was naturalized as a citizen of Australia and now holds dual nationality.
Michael Donald Kirby is an Australian jurist and academic who is a former Justice of the High Court of Australia, serving from 1996 to 2009. He has remained active in retirement; in May 2013 he was appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to lead an inquiry into human rights abuses in North Korea, which reported in February 2014.
Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni was an Egyptian-American emeritus professor of law at DePaul University, where he taught from 1964 to 2012. He served in numerous United Nations positions and served as the consultant to the US Department of State and Justice on many projects. He was a founding member of the International Human Rights Law Institute at DePaul University which was established in 1990. He served as president from 1990 to 1997 and then as president emeritus. Bassiouni is often referred to by the media as "the Godfather of International Criminal Law" and a "war crimes expert". As such, he served on the Steering Committee for The Crimes Against Humanity Initiative, which was launched to study the need for a comprehensive convention on the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity, and draft a proposed treaty. He spearheaded the drafting of the proposed convention, which as of 2014 is being debated at the International Law Commission.
Theodor Meron, is an American-Israeli lawyer and judge. He served as a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism). He served as President of the ICTY four times and inaugural President of the Mechanism for three terms (2012–19).
Joseph Halevi Horowitz Weiler is an American academic, currently serving as European Union Jean Monnet Chair at New York University School of Law and Senior Fellow of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies, Harvard.
John B. Quigley is a professor of law at the Moritz College of Law at the Ohio State University, where he is the Presidents' Club Professor of Law Emeritus. In 1995 he was recipient of the Ohio State University Distinguished Scholar Award. Born John Bernard Quigley Jr., he was raised in St. Louis, Missouri and educated at the St. Louis Country Day School. He graduated from Harvard in the class of 1962, later taking an LL.B degree from Harvard Law School in 1966 and an M.A., also awarded in 1966. He was admitted to the bar in Massachusetts in 1967. Before joining the Ohio State faculty in 1969, he was a research scholar at Moscow State University, and a research associate in comparative law at Harvard Law School. Professor Quigley teaches international law and comparative law. Professor Quigley holds an adjunct appointment in the Political Science Department. In 1982–83 he was a visiting professor at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Lyal S. Sunga is a well-known specialist on international human rights law, international humanitarian law and international criminal law.
Louis Henkin was an American legal scholar. He was considered one of the most influential contemporary scholars of international law and the foreign policy of the United States. He was a former president of the American Society of International Law and of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy and University Professor emeritus at Columbia Law School. He was until his death the chairman of the Center for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University. He was a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.

From 2017 - 2022, Finkelman served as the President and Chancellor of Gratz College, Melrose Park, Pennsylvania.

He was succeeded by the Argentine lawyer Juan Pablo Bohovslavsky.

Alan Robertson is a former judge of the Federal Court of Australia. He served as a deputy president of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and retired from the Court in May 2020 having reached the mandatory retirement age for federal judicial appointments.
Dapo Akande is a British-Nigerian academic and lawyer. Akande is the Chichele Professor of Public International Law at the University of Oxford, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford and co-director of the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict (ELAC). Akande was the first Black professor to be honoured with a portrait at St Peter's College, Oxford. Akande is a founding editor of EJIL:Talk!, the scholarly blog of the European Journal of International Law.
