Doot or Paavan Hriday Doot is Gujarati Catholic monthly published from Anand, Gujarat, India since January 1911.
The first issue was published by German Jesuit missionary Father Hermanus Zurhausen from the Examiner Press, Bombay (now Mumbai) in January 1911. [1] The publication moved to Anand in 1926 where it is being published by Gujarati Sahitya Prakash Society. The cost of the first issue was two paisa which now increased to ₹ 100 annually. [2] [3]
The monthly published its centenary issue in December 2010, the second ever Gujarati magazine after Buddhiprakash . [2] The commemorative postage stamps were released in January 2011. [3]
The magazine has around 5000 subscribers. [2]
The February 2012 issue published image of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus holding a can of beer and cigarette. After controversy, the publisher apologized. [4] [5]

Gujarat Vidya Sabha, originally called Gujarat Vernacular Society, is a literary institution for the promotion of vernacular Gujarati literature and education, and for the collection of manuscripts and printed books; located in the city of Ahmedabad, India. It was founded by a British administrator, Alexander Kinloch Forbes, in 1848 with the Gujarati author Dalpatram. The name was changed on the occasion of the centenary of the institution.

Narmadashankar Labhshankar Dave, popularly known as Narmad, was an Indian Gujarati-language poet, playwright, essayist, orator, lexicographer and reformer under the British Raj. He is considered to be the founder of modern Gujarati literature. After studying in Bombay, he stopped serving as a teacher to live by writing. During his prolific career, he introduced many literary forms in Gujarati. He faced economic struggles but proved himself as a dedicated reformer, speaking loudly against religious and social orthodoxy. His essays, poems, plays and prose were published in several collections. His Mari Hakikat, the first autobiography in Gujarati, was published posthumously. His poem Jai Jai Garavi Gujarat is now the state anthem of Gujarat state of India.

Indulal Kanaiyalal Yagnik was an Indian independence activist, who purchased indian tri colour flag from Germany to India. He was a leader of the All India Kisan Sabha and one who led the Mahagujarat Movement, which spearheaded the demand for the separate statehood of Gujarat on 8 August 1956. He is also known as Indu Chacha. He was also a writer and film maker.
Vishnu Pandya is a journalist, biographer, poet, novelist, writer and political analyst from Gujarat, India. He has been the chairman of Gujarat Sahitya Akademi since 2017. Swami Anand was a monk, a Gandhian activist and a Gujarati writer from India. He is remembered as the manager of Gandhi's publications such as Navajivan and Young India and for having inspired Gandhi to pen his autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth. He wrote sketches, memoir, biographies, philosophy, travelogues and translated some works.
Ichharam Suryaram Desai, also known by his pen name, Shankar, was a Gujarati author, anthologist and journalist. Though he did not complete his primary education, he worked with several newspapers and magazines and also wrote several novels, edited anthologies and translated classics.
The Media in Gujarati language started with publication of Bombay Samachar in 1822. Initially the newspapers published business news and they were owned by Parsi people based in Bombay. Later Gujarati newspapers started published from other parts of Gujarat. Several periodicals devoted to social reforms were published in the second half of the 19th century. After arrival of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian independence movement peaked and it resulted in proliferation of Gujarati media. Following independence, the media was chiefly focused on political news. After bifurcation of Bombay state, the area of service changed. Later there was an increase in readership due to growth of literacy and the media houses expanded its readership by publishing more number of editions. Later these media houses ventured into digital media also. The radio and television media expanded after 1990.
Rajendra Patel is a Gujarati language poet, short story writer and critic from Gujarat, India. He has served as Vice President of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad since 2014. His significant works include Jueeni Sugandha, Shri Purant Janse and Avagat. Gujarat Sahitya Akademi awarded him three times for his poems, short stories and criticism. His book Jueeni Sugandh was translated by Navneet Thakkar in Hindi as Juhi Ki Mahak (2007). He also served in the editorial team of Shabdasrishti, a monthly magazine published by Gujarat Sahitya Akademi.
Harish Krishnaram Dave, better known by his pen name Harish Meenashru, is a Gujarati language poet and translator from Gujarat, India. He is best known as a postmodern poet in Gujarati literature. Some of his significant works include Dhribaangsundar Eni Pere Dolya (1988), Suno Bhai Sadho (1999), Tandul (1999), Parjanyasukta (1999), and Banaras Diary (2016). His poems have been translated in Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, German, and English. He received a Kalapi Award (2010), Vali Gujarati Gazal Award (2012), and Narsinh Mehta Award (2014). He received the 2020 Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry collection Banaras Diary (2016).
Joravarsinh Danubhai Jadav is an Indian folklorist and proponent of the folk arts from Gujarat. Exposed to folk culture as a child, he studied history and culture in Ahmedabad. He has written and edited more than 90 works on folk culture, folk literature, and folk arts. He established the Gujarat Lok Kala Foundation for the promotion of folk arts. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.
Father Varghese Paul Chollamadam was a writer, journalist, translator and Jesuit priest from Gujarat, India. Born in South India, he was ordained a priest in 1977. He had written 53 essay books and edited a Catholic magazine Doot for 14 years. He had served on various posts in several press organisations including some which he had founded.
Bhogilal Chunilal Gandhi was an Indian scholar, poet, critic, translator, and freedom fighter from Gujarat, India. He edited Vishvamanav, a Gujarati-language literary-socio-political journal. He wrote biographies of several writers and political figures including Leo Tolstoy, Joseph Stalin, C. Rajagopalachari, Subhas Chandra Bose, Romain Rolland, Durgaram Mehta, and Narmad. He translated many works into Gujarati from English and Bengali languages. In his early years, he came under the influence of Communism, and became an active member of Communist Party of India.
Vaju Kotak was a Gujarati writer, publisher, journalist, and an Indian film director and screenwriter. He primarily worked in Gujarati film industry and in Bollywood during his career span. He is known to be the co-founder of weekly news magazine Chitralekha, published in Gujarati and Marathi.
