Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. (DMMI) is a religious-based, non-profit, international organization. It provides medical, surgical, dental and vision care to the poor and underserved globally. Established in 2000, Dorcas Medical Mission was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in August 2007, with corporate offices in Brooklyn, New York. [1]

History

Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. was co-founded by president and chief executive officer, Lorna Mullings, a registered nurse and an ordained minister, and her husband Rev. Dr. Sidley Mullings. [2] Lorna Mullings, whose strong faith and belief in God "called her to serve mankind through missionary work", combined her love for ministry and her skills as a registered nurse in creating DMMI. The organization was named after the biblical figure Dorcas [3] (also called Tabitha), mentioned in the ninth chapter of the Book of Acts, verses 36 to 42. Dorcas stands out as a biblical character of good works and charitable deeds.

Currently

Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. performs two missions annually. To date,[ when? ] the non-profit has completed 16 missions to nine countries and served over 100,000 persons in the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America and South America. [4] It hopes to continue expanding its geographical reach. In addition to providing health care services, DMMI also affects the lives of the disenfranchised through education, food and clothing programs.

Lorna Mullings continues as president and chief executive officer of DMMI alongside her husband and member of the board of directors, Dr. Bishop Sidley Mullings, Sharon Shorter MSN, RNC (DMMI's director of nursing), Dr. Hyacinth Bailey (dental director) and Dr. Bert Petersen (medical director). Dream House For Medically Fragile Children was a Georgia based organization dedicated to providing financial support and homes to children with severe health issues. It is a tax-exempt 501c3 charitable nonprofit. The organization was founded by Laura O. Moore, a pediatric nurse. The organization eventually served "children [who] had been abandoned by their families because they didn’t have the means to properly care for the child. In other instances, the child had been taken from the parents or caregivers because of abuse or neglect." Children could stabilize and improve with good care, and then returning them to their families, placing them in foster homes and/or obtaining adoption would be possible.

CURE International is a Christian nonprofit organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lillian Dickson American missionary

Lillian Dickson was an independent missionary, author, and public speaker. She used her maternal identity to develop her vocation in the middle of the twentieth century. Originally, she and her husband, James Dickson (1900-1967), were sent by the Presbyterian Church of Canada, to Taiwan in 1927. Lillian lived and worked in Taiwan until she died, except for the period between 1940 and 1947 when she and her husband were transferred to British Guiana because of growing tensions and war between Japan and the United States. The Health Wagon, which may also be referred to as St. Mary's Health Wagon, is a nonprofit organization providing free health care to those in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia. Since 1980, it has been operated by a small team of nurses who provide services to residents in six neighboring counties. Services are distributed in any of their three mobile units or two stationary clinics servicing Virginia's Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, Lee, Scott, and Wise counties.
