The governor of North Carolina is the head of government of the U.S. state of North Carolina. The governor directs the executive branch of the government and is the commander in chief of the military forces of the state. The current governor,Democrat Roy Cooper took office on January 1,2017,and had a public swearing-in ceremony on January 7,2017.

Henry McKinley "Mickey" Michaux Jr. is an American civil rights activist and Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He represented the state's thirty-first House district from 1983 to 2019 and previously served from 1973 through 1977. The district included constituents in Durham County. Upon his retirement,Michaux was the longest-serving member of the North Carolina General Assembly. In the 2007-2008 session,Michaux served as senior chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and chairman of the House Select Committee on Street Gang Prevention.
Deborah Ross is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the U.S. representative for North Carolina's 2nd congressional district since 2021. Her district is based in Raleigh. A member of the Democratic Party,Ross served as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013,representing the state's 38th and then 34th House district,including much of northern Raleigh and surrounding suburbs in Wake County.
Joe Hackney served for 16 terms as a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from the state's fifty-fourth House district,including constituents in Chatham,Orange,and Moore counties. The Constitution of North Carolina designates the lieutenant governor the ex officio president of the State Senate and a member of the State Board of Education. They are also required to serve as acting governor of the state in the event of the governor's absence,and assume the governorship in the event it becomes vacant.

Dennis Alvin Wicker is an American lawyer and politician from Sanford who served as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives (1981–1993),and as the 31st Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina (1993–2001). As lieutenant governor,he became the first statewide elected official to chair the State Board of Community Colleges,which sets policy for the state's 58-campus system. Wicker was also a member of the North Carolina State Board of Education and the State Board of Economic Development.
