103.2 Dublin City FM (Previously: Anna Livia FM and Dublin City Anna Livia FM) is an Independent Local Radio station in Dublin, Ireland, operated by Dublin Public Service Radio Association Ltd, under a sound broadcasting contract from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. [1] The station broadcasts on the 103.2 MHz FM frequency. Dublin City FM's Broadcast tower is located on "Rock Solid" tower on Three Rock Mountain, County Dublin. Dublin City FM is Ireland's only special interest, arts and cultural radio station.[ citation needed ]

History

The station's first broadcast was from Grafton Street, Dublin in 1992. Since 1992, the station has moved several times including to Griffith College and Sheriff Street. However the station has been situated in Dublin's Docklands since 2001. Former members of the Dublin City FM team include Robbie Fogarty (Sunshine 106.8), Declan Carty (Newstalk), Dermot Whelan (Today FM) and Brian Lally (RTÉ).[ citation needed ]

In 2001, the station was renamed "Dublin City Anna Livia FM" due to its connection and funding from Dublin City Council. In December 2007, the station was renamed "103.2 Dublin City FM" for advertising and branding purposes.[ citation needed ]

In 2008, Chris Maher, presenter of "The Soul Kitchen" won a "Living Dublin Award" because of the innovation he showed when setting up the Dublin City Soul Festival. On 6 May 2008, Mick Hanley was elected as CEO of Dublin City FM.[ citation needed ]

In March 2009, Chris Maher of "The Soul Kitchen" and Sean Brophy of "Jazzorama" moved to 4fm. Both of these presenters subsequently re-joined the Dublin City FM line-up with Jazz Mine (Saturdays 5PM) and Midweek Music Miscellany (Wednesday morning 11.30) presented and produced by Sean Brophy while "The Soul Kitchen" (with Chris Maher) airs Thursdays at 10PM.[ citation needed ]

Programming

The station broadcasts special interest music and talk, to a broad Dublin audience. The Station's flagship show is "LiveDrive", broadcast from 7 to 10am and 4 to 7pm. Other programmes include Good Morning Dublin and Black Echoes, broadcasting since 1982 in various stations. In 2008, Dublin City FM took on a syndicated show called Little Steven's Underground Garage and as a result Tower Records created a section dedicated to the show and genre of music.[ citation needed ]

Dublin City FM broadcast traffic information every weekday morning and weekday evening on their LiveDrive programme. In association with the Dublin City Council traffic monitoring network, broadcasters monitor and analyse over 450 cameras around the city to help listeners avoid traffic. The station broadcasts 7 days a week from 07:00 - 02:00. Programmes Include: current affairs, documentaries, Dublin issues, the arts, literature, business, health, media matters, sport, nature, leisure activities, women's topics, local history, plus special interest Irish and world music.[ citation needed ]

Black Echoes is a Jamaican music show which has been broadcasting on radio in Dublin, Ireland. The show airs a range of music, including reggae, ska, rock-steady and dub. The show is presented and produced by John Public.

The Capital Gold radio station started in London in 1988 on Capital Radio's AM frequency, after the Independent Broadcasting Authority had urged stations to end simulcasting and threatened to remove one of their frequencies if simulcasting continued. The original DJs on the early incarnation of Capital Gold included Tony Blackburn, Kenny Everett and David Hamilton. The hiring of radio personalities to host networked shows continued to be a feature of the Capital Gold network as it grew.

SPIN South West is radio station broadcasting from Raheen in Limerick city to the South West of Ireland. Raymond Foley is an Irish television host and radio presenter. Having worked at Dublin's 98FM and SPIN 1038 early in his career, Foley moved to Today FM in 2004. In 2006, he moved to midday and presented The Ray Foley Show, with sidekick JP Gilbourne and Adelle McDonnell. He hosted the breakfast slot on 98FM from October 2012 until December 2015. He also hosts TV dating show Take Me Out on TV3. On Friday 12 October 2012, Foley and JP announced on the show that both of them would be transferring to Today FM's sister station 98FM to present the breakfast show. They both have expressed how difficult the decision was for them, due to their fondness of their workmates and friends in Today FM. In 2022, Foley returned to Today FM with an afternoon show from 2pm - 4:30pm.

8Radio.com is an Irish radio station, started in 2013 by Phantom FM founder Simon Maher. It is mostly an online music station, but has sometimes received a temporary licence from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) for FM broadcasts in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick.
