Premise

Raja, who does not remember his past and is haunted by vague memories, works with a cook for Arusuvai Ambi. A sequence of events leads Raja to recollect his real identity as Durai and sets out to avenge his family's death and find the truth behind the death of his mentor Deivanayakam, an honest politician.

Critical response

Indiaglitz wrote "Durai is a movie for die-hard Arjun fans." [3] Behindwoods wrote "The weak story and loose script are the major drawbacks and with all his experience in tinsel town, Arjun ought to have done better." [4] The Hindu wrote "The Action King lives up to the sobriquet once again — stunts are a major draw of Durai. It is his treatment of the story that is found wanting." [5] Pavithra Srinivasan of Rediff wrote "If you're a keen Arjun fan, you'll get plenty of opportunities to whistle and cheer. If not, you can at least doze your way through." [6]

Arjun Sarja is an Indian actor, producer and director who works predominantly in Tamil cinema and he also established his career in Telugu and Kannada cinema apart from a few Hindi and Malayalam films. He debuted as a child actor in the film Simhada Mari Sainya in the year 1981. Sarja had acted in more than 160 movies. He has directed 12 films and also produced and distributed a number of films. After starring in numerous Kannada films with minor roles, he starred in his first movie as an independent actor in Male Bantu Male. In 1984, Sarja made his Tamil debut in Rama Narayanan's film Nandri. During the subsequent years he acted in many Telugu and Kannada films portraying lead and supporting roles in Trimurtulu (1987), Premagni (1989), Prathap (1990) and Shivanaga (1992).
