The single storey building features a pitched roof with a bell tower above it at the front. The original red tiles of the building's roof were retained. The exterior also feature colonial-style balustrades and "old-fashioned" wall lamps. [1]
The building's foundation stone was laid by the daughter of a member of the local school board on 4 March 1928. The building, which was designed by prominent architect Heinrich Rudolf Arbenz, was officially opened on 21 June. The opening ceremony was attended by Richard Olaf Winstedt, then the Director of Education of the Straits Settlements. [2] It housed classrooms and an assembly hall. Prior to the building's completion, the school had been housed at the Dutch Club. [1] During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, the school was not in operation as most of its staff and students had been interned. It reopened in December 1946. [3]
By 1978, the number of students at the school had grown to 150 and the building had become "cramped". [4] In January 1983, the Shangri-La Hotel, which is situated next to the building, purchased the land on which the building stands for $5.5 million. [5] Plans to move to a new campus in 1985 in Bukit Timah had been made by January 1984. [6] In June 1988, it was announced that the building had been converted into a tennis pavilion for the hotel and that it had been preserved for its "historical significance". [7] The building reopened as a wedding venue in 2014 following a $1.5 million "complete" restoration. [8]

Built in 1975 by the JTC Corporation and designed by Prof. Yuen-chen Yu, an architect from Taiwan, the Chinese Garden's concept is based on Chinese gardening art. The Chinese Garden is modeled along the northern Chinese imperial style of architecture and landscaping. The Fullerton Hotel Singapore is a five-star luxury hotel located near the mouth of the Singapore River, in the Downtown Core of the Central Area, Singapore. It was originally known as the Fullerton Building, and also as the General Post Office Building. The address is 1 Fullerton Square. The Fullerton Building was named after Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements (1826–1829). Commissioned in 1924 as part of the British colony's centennial celebrations, the building was designed as an office building by Major P.H. Keys of Keys & Dowdeswell, a Shanghai firm of architects, which won the project through an architectural design competition. The architectural firm also designed the Capitol Theatre, its adjoined Capitol Building and the Singapore General Hospital. In 2015, it was designated as a national monument of Singapore.

One of the oldest architectural firms in the country, it was formerly known as Swan & Maclaren and Swan & Lermit, and was one of the most prominent architectural firms in Singapore when it was a crown colony during the early 20th century. The firm has designed numerous iconic heritage buildings in Singapore as well as Malaysia.
Yue Hwa Building is a historic building located at the junction of Eu Tong Sen Street and Upper Cross Street in Chinatown, Singapore, next to Chinatown MRT station. Built by Swan and Maclaren in 1927, it was then the tallest building in Chinatown and was known as Nam Tin Building (南天大厦), owned by Lum Chang Holdings. The building housed the six-storey Great Southern Hotel, along with a few shops and cabarets that were popular among Chinese travellers. In 1993, Lum Chang Holdings sold the building to Hong Kong businessman Yu Kwok Chun, who converted it to the first Yue Hwa Chinese Products department store in Singapore in 1994. The renovation process, which conserved the exterior while adding features such as an atrium and waterfall to the interior, won the building the Architectural Heritage Award by the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 1997.
Toa Payoh Town Park is located at the junction of Lorong 2 Toa Payoh and Lorong 6 Toa Payoh. Park size is 4.8 hectares. The Park is currently closed for six years as part of the redevelopment of the Toa Payoh Sports Hub.
On 31 May 2015, Mohamed Taufik Zahar was shot by the police manning a high security checkpoint located near the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore where the Shangri-La Dialogue was being held. Taufik was driving a car when he accelerated towards police officers at a roadblock. Taufik died after being shot and his two passengers were subsequently convicted of drug offences.
Eng Aun Tong Building, also known as Tiger Balm Medical Hall, is a historic building at the corner of Neil Road and Craig Road in Tanjong Pagar, Singapore. Completed in the 1920s, it served as the Tiger Balm factory for several decades.
Boulevard Hotel was a hotel on Orchard Boulevard in the Orchard Planning Area in Singapore. Opened on Cuscaden Road in 1968 as the Cuscaden House Hotel, it closed down in 1974 before being acquired by Hotel Malaysia Limited, who reopened it as the Hotel Malaysia in 1976. In 1983, the hotel received an extension, after which its main entrance was shifted to Orchard Boulevard. It was also renamed the Boulevard Hotel. The hotel closed down in 2000 before being demolished to make way for a condominium complex.
