Chaldon Herring or East Chaldon is a village and civil parish in the English county of Dorset, situated about 8 miles (13 km) south-east of the county town Dorchester. It is sited 2 miles (3.2 km) from the coast in the chalk hills of the South Dorset Downs, the highest point in the area being Chaldon Hill about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the south overlooking the sea. In the 2011 census the civil parish had 59 households and a population of 140.
Haynes is a small village, civil parish and former manor, located in Bedfordshire, England, about seven miles (11 km) south of Bedford. It includes the small hamlet of Haynes Church End. It used to be known as Hawnes. North from Haynes is a hamlet named Silver End, then further up is Herrings Green, Cotton End and Shortstown.The name 'Haynes' is derived from an Old English word meaning "enclosures". He played college football at Auburn University and professionally as a center and linebacker for the Buffalo Bills in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL). Mark Herring is an international swimmer who competed for New Zealand in the 2008 Summer Olympics in the 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay. He competed in the 50 metre and the 100 metre freestyle events at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships. His father, Colin Herring, had competed for New Zealand in two swimming events at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Herring Cove is a Canadian suburban and former fishing community in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Chebucto Peninsula, 15 kilometres south of Downtown Halifax. It is near the western approaches to Halifax Harbour, and can be reached both via Purcell's Cove along the coastal road and from inland via the Herring Cove Road through Spryfield. There are two schools in Herring Cove, William King Elementary and Herring Cove Junior High. The community is also home to a small variety of small businesses and programs.

Herring often move in large schools around fishing banks and near the coast. The most abundant and commercially important species belong to the genus Clupea, found particularly in shallow, temperate waters of the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans, including the Baltic Sea, as well as off the west coast of South America. Three species of Clupea are recognized; the main taxon, the Atlantic herring, accounts for over half the world's commercial capture of herrings.
Live at Jazz Standard is an album by the Mingus Big Band that won the Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 2011. The album documents a concert at the Jazz Standard club in New York City on New Year's Eve, 2009. The concert and the album commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of songs recorded by Charles Mingus. The band was conducted by Gunther Schuller and included trumpeter Randy Brecker, who played with Mingus during the 1970s.
