Ebenezer Kwadwo Teye Addo (died 17 September 2024) was a Ghanaian politician and the Central Regional Minister of Ghana. [1] [2] After heading the Central Region,he was moved to the Western Region as the new Regional Minister. [3] He served in John Mahama's government in 2013. [4]
Birth and Early Childhood
Born at Kojo Beedu in Winneba to Opanyin Kwame Addo of
Apam in the Central Region,
and Madam Akorshikor Akorli of
Dzelukope in the Volta Region of
Ghana (both of blessed memory),
Ebenezer Kwodwo Teye Addo (aka:
Hon E.K.T.Addo) was the 6th of Nine
(9) children of his parents. He hailed
from the Takyina Aboradze Royal
Family of Apam. His father was a
renowned Mason Contractor,while
the mother engaged in Petty Trading
to support the family. Theirs was a
very happy family where all siblings
were treated equally,with much love.
Young EKT Addo was one of a unique
character,and that was evidenced
in the roles he played at home right
from his childhood days. Though not
the eldest,young Addo exhibited
some leadership traits right from the
start. He was so daring in tackling
tasks even the older siblings feared
to venture into, and always went an
extra mile to push them into doing things to please their parents.
Educational Background
Unfortunately,both parents never
had the opportunity of acquiring
Formal Education,but vowed to
educate all their 9 children to
whichever level God would permit
them to take them to,whilst they
were alive. Little Ebenezer showed
the keenest interest amongst the
siblings. Not yet of school-going
age,Kwodwo was always seen
every morning walking bare-footed
with a collar (cloth),tied around his
neck,crying and following his elder
siblings to school. No amount of
persuasions or force from teachers,
elders,and others could send him
back home. That became a routine
most of the time;his reason being
“mepꜪdꜫmokosua adze na me
krakyenyi”. Those attitudes of his
forced his parents to plead with
the Headmaster and Teachers at
the Anglican Primary School at
Winneba,to enroll him in school at a
very tender age, which was not easy
those days,though,but he never
disappointed anyone who added a
voice to his enrollment. He excelled
in all spheres throughout his Primary
Education,to the admiration of
all. He progressed to the Urban
Council Middle ‘A’School,also at
Winneba,where he successfully
completed his Form Four Education
and obtained the Middle School
Leaving Certificate (MSLC),with a
Distinction,in the Year 1965.
It was in the Middle school that his
zeal for becoming a Professional
Teacher came to play. His Teachers
were using him to copy Notes on
the Blackboard for his peers,and
he was being referred to as a Born
- Teacher’. He proceeded to the
Sefwi Wiawso Training College in
1966,a year after completing his
Elementary Education,to pursue
his dream career, and passed out as
a Certificate ‘A’(4YR) Profession
Teacher,in 1970. It was at the
Training College that his initials
(EKT) became his accepted name.
Wanting to be the scholar he had
dreamt of becoming in his childhood
days,EKT Addo pursued a One-
Year Programme at the defunct
Advanced Teachers’Training College
at Winneba,between 1978 and 1979,
and left for the University of Cape
Coast (UCC) where he obtained a
Diploma in Religious Studies,and a
Bachelor ofEducation (B.Ed),Degree
in 1982 with a 2nd Class Upper Honors
Division. He continued with an M.Ed
in Educational Administration at the
Institute for Educational Planning
and Administration (I.E,P,A) at the
University of Cape Coast,Cape
Coast.
Somewhere along the line,Ebenezer
Kwodwo Teye Addo had a flare for
the Legal Fraternity and got enrolled
at the Ghana School of law in 2004,
obtained his Barrister At Law (BL)
Degree,and was professionally
called to the Bar in 2007.
WorkingExperience
He died on 17 September 2024. [5]
