Edgar Chibaka (born 1973) is a British Malawian businessman, author, philanthropist, pastor and former civil servant based in the United Kingdom. [1] [2] [3] [4] He is the chairman of the executive board at UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce and Malawi-UK Business Group. [2] [5] He is also the founder of Malawi's leading online publication, Nyasa Times that he found in the early 2006. [6]

He is the co-founder and director of First Response Group established in 2007 with Jamal Tahlil, [7] [8] a company company based in the United Kingdom that specializes in security services, site logistics, CCTV, and property risk management. [9] [10] [5]

He is also the founder and CEO of Shire Railways. [5] He serves as a managing director at Robinsons MEA, an electrical, mechanical and air conditioning design, maintenance and installation company based in Harrogate, England. [7] [5]

Background

Early life and education

Chibaka was born in 1973 in Rumphi District in Malawi in a family of five in which he is the first born. He is a Tumbuka by tribe. He attended his primary school in Rumphi and attended last classes in Blantyre. [5] He did his secondary studies at Dedza Government Secondary School in Dezda District. It is here where he developed an interest in journalism. He had worked as a freelance correspondent for the Mirror Newspaper and Weekly News based in Blantyre. [8] [5]

Chibaka holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) obtained from the University of Northampton. He holds a Diploma in Accountancy, and Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management (Salford University Business School). He is also a certified coach, mentor, and trainer by the John Maxwell Leadership program. [8] [11]

Chibaka was awarded Black British Business Awards Co-Person of the Year in 2021. [5] [12] In 2022, he was honored with an Ernest and Young (EY) in Entrepreneur of the Year Regional Finalist . He was also warded a Yorkshire Finance Leader (YFL) High Growth Award in 2023. [11] [12]

Career

Chibaka is a managing director of Robinsons Building Services Ltd since 2018. The company is based in Harrogate, whose subsidiary later evolved into Robinsons MEA Ltd and was elected Chairman of the Malawi-UK Business Group in 2020. [5]

John Nyanga was a Malawian comedian and actor better known by his stage name as Izeki. He rose to fame after associating with Kwathu Drama Group in which he was in the part of the duo ‘Izeki ndi Jacobo’. He was also a pastor at Synagogue of Hope Church in Blantyre. He died in 2016 on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre after a long illness. He partnered with Eric Mabedi in Izeki ndi Jakobo plays.

Kwathu Drama Group is a Malawian oldest drama group mainly composed of Eric Mabedi and John Nyanga, who died in 2021, that started in 1980. Abraham John Simama is a Malawian businessman, preacher, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of Simama Industries, a conglomerate with interests in the construction, real estate, and agriculture. He is also the senior pastor and the founder of the Glorious Light International Church, which is headquartered in Lilongwe and has written several books on spirituality and leadership. He is the founder of Simama Hotel located in the capital Malawi.

Geoffrey Kapusa was a veteran Malawian television and radio broadcaster and presenter. He was known to have started a television music show called 'Malawi Music Splash' programme on Malawi's MBC state television in early 2000s. He was known as Mr. Splash as a result of his flagship TV music show. Kapusa worked for Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation (MBC) before a brief stint with Times Group.

Hope Chisanu was a Malawian actor, politician and radio personality at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). He appeared in a leading role in the Malawian award-winning movies The Last Fishing Boat and Seasons of a Life.
