Edify Mukambala Hamukale (born 15 April 1971) is a Zambian politician who was a nominated member of parliament and served as the Provincial Minister for Southern Province from 2016 to 2021. [1] [2] He was a member of the Patriotic Front party up to August 2021 [1] and is currently a United Party for National Development member. [3]

Education and Early Life

Edify Mukambala Hamukale, a member of the Ila and Tonga ethnic group of the Bantu Botatwe,was born at Keemba Clinic of Monze district in the Southern Province of Zambia. His Father was Amos Hamukale an Ila speaking from Kantengwa in chief Mungailas area of Namwala district . Due to ethnic wars his clan migrated to Chief Choongo's chiefdom where Amos Hamukale married his first wife Naomi Beene Miyanda, a royal relative of Chief Mwanachingwala and chief Choongo. Together they had ten children(four boys and six girls) with Edify Hamukale being their 7th child. Amos married four other wives in polygamous marriage that bore him twenty one children. Edify attended Banakaila Primary school in monze district and was appointed class captain on his first day at school although he was renowned for noise making in class. At the age of eight, he was often selected by Government protocol to receive Zambia's First President Kenneth Kaunda at official functions as a flower boy and also led in citing poems and singing for guests. He later attended Chipepo Boys Secondary school where he was appointed as school captain(head-boy) in his final twelfth grade. Edify Hamukale had a reputation for superior passes in mathematics and natural sciences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XXwDPqabV0 He holds a Bachelor of sciences degree in Agriculture and Economics, Bachelor of Business Management(with Finance), Master's in Agriculture, Master of Business Administration and a PhD in Business Administration. Edify Hamukale also holds four Diplomas and four various certificates. As a student at the University of Twente and the Hague University in the Netherlands, he played bass guitar and rhythm guitar with his Dutch friends and featured in several music live shows and television. On his return to Zambia he was elected by Zambian musicians as Board Chairman for the Zambia Music Copyright Protection, a position he held from the year 2012 to 2018. Professional Career

At the Zambia Sugar Company in Mazabuka, he got a job as a general worker and later was elevated to the position of weigh bridge clerk. He then worked for Zambezi Ranching and Cropping and Zambeef Plc as a farm manager in charge of cattle feedlots, dairy herd and pedigree cows and bull breeding. During the drought period of 1996, he was employed by the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit under PAM as Provincial Coordinator for Eastern Province to manage a food aid distribution program but resigned seven years later to work for Corteva Agri science( Pannar Seed) as Regional Manager for the Northerly Five Provinces of Zambia including the Democratic Republic of Congo market in the copper rich province of Katanga. In 2008, he got a job at the Government owned Food Reserve Agency but was asked to resign by the Government in 2011 for engaging in politics. In 2012, New Holland Agriculture, a multinational farm machinery company employed him as its General Manager (CEO) for Zambia. In 2014, he was employed by CAMCO Equipment, an international Engineering Company, where he was Head of the Agriculture Machinery and Construction Division at Deputy director level but resigned in 2016 and became a lecturer at the Zambian Open University in the School of Agriculture. Political career

Hamukale was nominated as a member of parliament by President Edgar Lungu after the 2016 general election. [2] [4] He was then appointed as the provincial minister for Southern Province [4] and served in that role up until the term concluded in 2021. [1] He resigned from the Patriotic Front party on 15 August 2021. [1] He then joined the United Party for National Development in July 2022. [3] During his tenure of ministerial office, Southern Province of Zambia experienced significant infrastructure development including the Kazungula Bridge on the border with Botswana, modern bus stations, new hospitals and schools and massive road improvements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj9o_rZSSNs


Personal Life

Edify Hamukale got married in 1998 to his Wife Matimba who holds a diploma and a degree in Nursing and together they have three children. Beene Naomi Hamukale (a girl) was born on 3rd March 1999 and she holds a degree in Environmental and Civil Engineering having studied in Russia. Their Second child Munalobwe Edify Hamukale(a boy) is an Electrical Engineer who studied in Russia too and was born on 6th May 2001. Their last child Lushomo Nangoma Hamukale (a girl) was born on 2nd December 2007.
