The Edmonton Rugby Union is the administrative body for rugby union in Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. The Hugo Ross Trophy was named after a Winnipeg real estate broker, Hugo Ross, who donated the championship trophy to the Western Canada Rugby Football Union (WCRFU). Hugo Ross died a year earlier in April 1912, as he was one of many who drowned in the sinking of RMS Titanic.

Edmonton Rugby Foot-ball Club was an early Canadian football-rugby union team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The team originated as the Edmonton Rugby Football Club in 1890 which played out of the Edmonton Exhibition Grounds. The team competed in the Alberta Rugby Football Union (AFRU) when it was created in 1898.

The Edmonton Gold are a Canadian rugby union team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The team plays in the Rugby Canada Super League and draws most of its players from the Edmonton Rugby Union, one of fourteen Rugby Unions that have rep teams in the RCSL.

The Alberta Rugby Football Union was formed in 1911.It joined the Manitoba Rugby Football Union and the Saskatchewan Rugby Football Union to form the Western Canada Rugby Football Union (WCRFU) in 1911. In 1926, the British Columbia Rugby Football Union was formed and joined the WCRFU.

Robert William Paffrath is a former professional American football halfback. He played for the Miami Seahawks and the Brooklyn Dodgers of the All-America Football Conference, for the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union, and for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Western Interprovincial Football Union. Paffrath also played one year in the Ontario Rugby Football Union with the Toronto Indians, where he was MVP.

Nick Blevins rugby union player (1988-)

Nick Blevins is a rugby union centre who plays for Prairie Wolf Pack and Canada. Blevins made his debut for Canada in 2009 and was part of the Canada squad at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The Douglas Horn Trophy - also called the Douglas JL Horn Memorial Cup - was established as a perpetual rugby union trophy between Canada and Scotland in 2008.
