The Edmonton Rugby Union is the administrative body for rugby union in Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

The Hugo Ross Trophy was named after a Winnipeg real estate broker, Hugo Ross, who donated the championship trophy to the Western Canada Rugby Football Union (WCRFU). Hugo Ross died a year earlier in April 1912, as he was one of many who drowned in the sinking of RMS Titanic.

Robert William Paffrath is a former professional American football halfback. He played for the Miami Seahawks and the Brooklyn Dodgers of the All-America Football Conference, for the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union, and for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Western Interprovincial Football Union. Paffrath also played one year in the Ontario Rugby Football Union with the Toronto Indians, where he was MVP.
Nick Blevins is a rugby union centre who plays for Prairie Wolf Pack and Canada. Blevins made his debut for Canada in 2009 and was part of the Canada squad at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
