James Dargan was an English footballer who played as an inside forward. Born in Manchester, he started his career with Cheshire League side Northwich Victoria in 1925 before moving to Football League Third Division North club Nelson in January 1928. Dargan made his debut for Nelson in the 3–4 defeat away at Rotherham United on 21 January 1928. He almost scored in the game, but his header was saved by the Rotherham goalkeeper, Tom Atter.

After finishing in third position in the Football Alliance in 1891–92, Small Heath was one of 12 clubs elected to the newly formed Second Division for the 1892–93 Football League season.
Frederick Walter Laycock was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward. He was born in Sheffield. He began his career in local football with St Mary's and Shirebrook. After a spell in the Midland League with Rotherham Town, Laycock signed as a professional with Sheffield Wednesday in March 1923. However, he failed to make a first-team appearance for the club and moved on a free transfer to Football League Third Division North side Barrow the following year. At Holker Street, Laycock scored 10 goals in 31 league matches. Said to be an outstanding header of the football, his form for Barrow attracted other clubs to his signature. At the match against Rotherham County on 16 March 1925, the final day for transfers in the 1924–25 season, several clubs sent representatives to sign the player. While the game was in progress, Laycock was called from the field of play to sign for Third Division North rivals Nelson, before completing the rest of the match for Barrow. Both Laycock and Nelson were later fined over the incident, Laycock receiving his punishment for illegally representing Barrow while contracted to a different club.
Benjamin W. Shearman was an English footballer who played as an outside left. Born in Lincoln he came to the fore with Rotherham Town before having spells with Bristol City, West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest. He gained an FA Cup losers medal whilst with West Brom having played in the 1912 final. Despite missing four years of his career due to World War I he made 217 appearances in the Football League.
The 1892–93 season was the fourth in existence for Sheffield United. This was their first season playing in the recently formed Football League Second Division as the club sought to establish itself as a major footballing force. With some members of the football committee unconvinced of the long-term future of the Football League, the club also retained its membership of the Northern League.
William James F. Croxon (1871–1949) was an English footballer who played in The Football League for Sheffield United and Rotherham Town. Born in West Ham he played as an outside right and also had spells at Royal Arsenal and Millwall. Signed by United in the autumn of 1892, Croxon struggled to break into the first team as they played their first season in the Football League. He made his league debut in November 1892 in a game against Darwen, but played only three further league games in his two-year spell. Croxon moved to Rotherham Town in the summer of 1894, for whom he played nine league games before retiring.
