EeStairs is a designer and manufacturer of staircases and balustrades [1] [2] and inventor of the patented 1m2 staircase. EeStairs has offices in the UK, Europe and the USA. Its headquarters are located in the Netherlands.

History

Founded in 2000 as a construction company, EeStairs was originally named Cluistra RVS. In the subsequent years, the company specialized in staircase design and manufacturing and was renamed EeStairs. The founders of EeStairs are Dick Cluistra and Cornelis van Vlastuin [3] [4] [5]

1m2 staircase

One of the products of EeStairs is the 1m2 staircase. It is a small staircase using only 1m2. [6] [7] [8] EeStairs patented the 1m2 staircase in 2007. [9]

Design competition

Since 2000, EeStairs organized a 'Staircase of the year' competition in The Netherlands. [10] [11] In 2014, EeStairs organized the first international design competition. The winners were architecture students from Russia and the Czech Republic. [12] [13]

The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song "Hemel en aarde" written by Eric van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma. The song was performed by Edsilia Rombley. The Dutch broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS) organised the national final Nationaal Songfestival 1998 in order to select the Dutch entry for the 1998 contest in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Eight entries competed in the national final on 8 March 1998 where "Hemel en aarde" performed by Edsilia Rombley was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from an eight-member jury panel and a public vote.

Belgium was represented by Bob Benny, with the song "Hou toch van mij", at the 1959 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 11 March in Cannes, France. The song was chosen at the Belgian national final on 15 February. Benny would represent Belgium again in the 1961 contest.

<i>De Boom Die Alles Zag</i> Tree in Amsterdam

De Boom Die Alles Zag is a grey poplar tree located in Bijlmermeer, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that survived the crash of El Al Flight 1862 on 4 October 1992. Due to the eye-shaped patterns on its trunk, the tree was considered to be an eyewitness of the accident and its aftermath. An official memorial was built next to the tree, where the accident is commemorated every year on its anniversary. It is a part of a larger monument, Het Groeiend Monument.
