The Genovese crime family,also sometimes referred to as the Westside,is an Italian-American Mafia crime family and one of the "Five Families" that dominate organized crime activities in New York City and New Jersey as part of the American Mafia. The Genovese family has generally maintained a varying degree of influence over many of the smaller mob families outside New York,including ties with the Philadelphia,Cleveland,Patriarca,and Buffalo crime families.
John Gotti Jr is an American former mobster who was the acting boss of the Gambino crime family from 1992 to 1999. Prosecutors say the Albanian gang was headed by Alex Rudaj and an Albanian Italian man named Nardino Colotti who both had ties to the late Gambino soldier Phil "Skinny" Loscalzo.

William Frank Boyland Jr. is an American convicted felon and former politician from the state of New York. A Democrat,Boyland represented District 55 (Brooklyn) in the New York State Assembly and was first elected in a 2003 special election. He forfeited his Assembly seat on March 6,2014 due to his conviction on federal felony charges related to extortion,bribery,and official corruption,and he was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Shirley L. Huntley is an American politician who is formerly a New York State Senator,serving from 2007 to 2012. Huntley represented Senate District 10 in Queens County,which included Jamaica,South Jamaica,Springfield Gardens,Laurelton,South Ozone Park,Kew Gardens,Broad Channel,and Lindenwood. She pleaded guilty to mail fraud in 2013.

Corruption in Illinois has been a problem from the earliest history of the state. Electoral fraud in Illinois pre-dates the territory's admission to the Union in 1818. Illinois had the third most federal criminal convictions for public corruption between 1976 and 2012,behind New York and California. A study published by the University of Illinois Chicago in 2022 ranked Illinois as the second most corrupt state in the nation,with 4 out of the last 11 governors serving time in prison.
