The El Paso Marathon is an annual running event held in El Paso, Texas since 2007. It is an official Boston Marathon qualifier and includes a half marathon as well as a 5K race. It is organized by the non-profit El Paso Marathon Foundation. [1] Over 3,000 runners participated in the 2019 Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K. [2]

Course

When founded, the full marathon was a point to point race, which started at the top of Transmountain Road and ended at Union Plaza in Downtown El Paso. Elevation loss from start to finish is 1584 ft. [3] A new course debuted in 2018 which starts and ends downtown at Southwest University Park. [4]

The half marathon and 5K race start and finish on Anthony St. in front of Union Plaza Park.

Peres Jepchirchir is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes mainly in road running competitions. She won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Jepchirchir was the champion at the 2016 and 2020 World Half Marathon Championships. She claimed victories at the 2021 New York City and 2022 Boston Marathon and finished third at the 2023 London Marathon. She claimed a further victory at the 2024 London Marathon, finishing in two hours, 16 minutes and 16 seconds and breaking the women’s only world record.

Weini Kelati Frezghi is an American middle and long distance runner. Born in Eritrea, she claimed asylum in the United States in July 2014 and subsequently achieved multiple victories in state and national level competitions while attending Heritage High School in Leesburg, Virginia. While competing for the University of New Mexico, Kelati won the 2019 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. In June 2021, she officially became a U.S. citizen and began competing as an American. Kelati set an American record of 1:06.25 for the half marathon in January 2024. She runs professionally for Under Armour on the group Dark Sky Distance.
