Elango Kumaravelis an Indian actor and writer. He is also a co-founder of the Chennai based theatre group "Magic Lantern". [1] [2] [3] [4] He is an alumnus of Pondicherry University's Sankaradas Swamigal School of Performing Arts and the Chennai-based theatre workshop koothuppattarai. [5] [6] He has also worked as a casting assistant for the 2007 film Loins of Punjab Presents and wrote the script for the 2008 film Kattradhu Kalavu . [7] He was involved in the production of "Ey Aa O!" a musical fusion work of collaboration between Indian folk and classical musicians. [8]

Career

When Kumaravel was staging Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan , he was spotted by Nassar and approached to star in his film Maayan . [9] While Vishwanathan met Kumaravel on the sets of the play Minnal Ravi (Virtuous Burglar), he was introduced to Radha Mohan and starred in Azhagiya Theeye . [10] [11] Kumaravel became a regular in Radha Mohan's films. [9] He garnered acclaim for his role in Abhiyum Naanum as a beggar named Ravi Shastri. [12] [9]

Payanam (transl. Journey) is a 2011 Indian action thriller film that was written and directed by Radha Mohan. It was simultaneously filmed in Tamil and Telugu languages, the latter being titled Gaganam (transl.Sky). The film's plot is based on a flight hijacking incident. Payanam's cast includes Nagarjuna, Prakash Raj, Poonam Kaur, Sana Khan, Rishi, Brahmanandam and Thalaivasal Vijay. The film was co-produced by Raj and Dil Raju, and was released on 11 February 2011 to critical and commercial success.

Ponniyin Selvan is a Tamil language historical fiction novel by Indian author Kalki Krishnamurthy. It was first serialised in the weekly editions of Kalki, a Tamil magazine, from 29 October 1950 to 16 May 1954 and later integrated into five volumes in 1955. In about 2,210 pages, it tells the story of early days of Chola prince Arulmozhivarman. Kalki visited Sri Lanka three times to gather information and for inspiration.
