Eldon Mulder (born August 28,1957) is a lobbyist and former politician who represented the 23rd district in the Alaska House of Representatives between 1993 and 2003.
Mulder was born in Sioux Center,Iowa and grew up on a farm there. [1] [2] He graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1976,going on to obtain a bachelor's degree in political science from Central College in 1980 and a master's degree from University of Colorado Boulder in 1982. [1] [3]
Mulder was elected to the Alaska House in 1992,representing Anchorage. During his time in the legislature,most of his work was focused on state finances. He served as co-chair of the Finance Committee and was a member of numerous finance subcommittees. [3]
In May 2002,Mulder announced that he would not seek reelection,citing a desire to spend more time with his family. [4]
After leaving the House,Mulder founded a lobbying firm—the Mulder Company. Mulder's clients have included the Pebble Partnership and GCI. [5] [6]
Mulder was formerly married to fellow lobbyist Wendy Chamberlain. [5] He has two daughters. [4] He is currently married to Corina Mulder. [2]
In August of 2018,Mulder received some attention in the media and online for rescuing a porcupine stranded on a rock in the Kenai River. [2] [7]
Lisa Ann Murkowski is an American attorney and politician serving as the senior United States senator representing Alaska,having held that seat since 2002. She is the first woman to represent Alaska in the Senate and the Senate's second-most senior Republican woman,after Susan Collins of Maine. She became dean of Alaska's congressional delegation upon Representative Don Young's death.
Jay Sterner Hammond was an American politician of the Republican Party,who served as the fourth governor of Alaska from 1974 to 1982. Hammond was born in Troy,New York and served as a Marine Corps fighter pilot in World War II with the Black Sheep Squadron. In 1946,he moved to Alaska where he worked as a bush pilot. Hammond served as a state representative from 1959 to 1965 and as a state senator from 1967 to 1973. From 1972 until 1974 he was the mayor of the Bristol Bay Borough. Then,in 1974,he was elected governor of Alaska.
The Alaska political corruption probe refers to a 2003 to 2010 widespread investigation by the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice,the Federal Bureau of Investigation,and the Internal Revenue Service into political corruption of nine then-current or former Alaskan state lawmakers,as well as Republican US Representative Don Young and then-US Senator,Republican Ted Stevens. Sometimes referred to as "The Corrupt Bastards Club" or the "Operation Polar Pen",the investigation focused on the oil industry,fisheries and for-profit prison industries.
Thomas T. Anderson was a partner at Optima Public Relations in Anchorage,Alaska and host of the "Tom Anderson Show" radio talk show (www.TomAndersonShow.com) on KVNT 92.5 FM and 1020 AM in Anchorage and Mat-Su. Anderson,a Republican,was an Alaska state representative for District 19 representing northeast Anchorage for two terms,from 2003 to 2007. He became known for his sponsorship of legislation which expanded Alaska's DNA database to assist in forensic identification of criminal suspects through DNA testing.
Although in its early years of statehood,Alaska was a Democratic state,since the early 1970s it has been characterized as Republican-leaning. Local political communities have often worked on issues related to land use development,fishing,tourism,and individual rights. Alaska Natives,while organized in and around their communities,have been active within the Native corporations. These have been given ownership over large tracts of land,which require stewardship. The state has an independence movement favoring a vote on secession from the United States,with the Alaskan Independence Party,but its membership has shrunk in recent decades.
The 2002 Alaska gubernatorial election took place on November 5,2002,for the post of Governor of Alaska. Republican U.S. Senator Frank Murkowski defeated Democratic Lieutenant Governor Fran Ulmer. Murkowski became the first Republican elected governor of Alaska since Jay Hammond in 1978.

Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Anchorage,sought election to her first full term after being appointed by her father Frank Murkowski to serve out the rest of the latter's unexpired term when he resigned in December 2002 to become Governor of Alaska. Her main challenger was Democratic former governor Tony Knowles,her father's predecessor as governor. Murkowski won by a slight margin. As of 2022,Senator Murkowski’s vote total of 149,773 votes remains the most raw votes she has ever received during any of her runs for the US Senate.

A former aide to U.S. Senator Tim Hutchinson (R-AR),he joined the lobbying firm Sonnenschein,Nath &Rosenthal,and then became a member of "Team Abramoff" at Greenberg Traurig. He went on to become a lobbyist for Wal-Mart from 2004–08,as its executive director of Republican outreach. He was fired when charges were filed concerning his activities with Abramoff.

The general election was preceded by primary elections which were held on August 24,2010. Scott McAdams,the Mayor of Sitka,became the Democratic nominee;Joe Miller,an attorney and former federal magistrate,became the Republican nominee after defeating incumbent U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski. Miller was endorsed by the Tea Party movement and former Governor Sarah Palin. Murkowski announced that despite her defeat in the primary,she would run in the general election as a write-in candidate.
