Electric Time Company, founded in 1928, is a manufacturer of tower and street clocks marketed worldwide.

History

Electric Time Company was founded in 1928 and incorporated in the state of Massachusetts in 1932. It was founded by a salesman for the Self Winding Clock Company and Telechron of Ashland, Massachusetts. Originally part of Telechron it progressed from an office in Boston, Massachusetts to manufacturing facilities in Wellesley, Massachusetts; South Natick, Massachusetts; and, currently, a 50,000 square foot (4,600 m2) manufacturing facility in Medfield, Massachusetts. Electric Time produces approximately 1000 clocks annually and is the largest maker of custom outdoor clocks in the United States. [2] Electric Time produces tower clocks, post clocks, and bracket clocks. Electric Time has many clock installations throughout the world, ranging from Brazil to Turkey to Europe. Some notable installations are Wrigley Field, Tiffany & Co, Disneyworld, Disneyland and the Great American Ball Park. [3]

Pope Manufacturing Company was founded by Albert Augustus Pope around 1876 in Boston, Massachusetts, US and incorporated in Hartford, Connecticut in 1877. Manufacturing of bicycles began in 1878 in Hartford at the Weed Sewing Machine Company factory. Pope manufactured bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles. From 1905 to 1913, Pope gradually consolidated manufacturing to the Westfield Mass plant. The main offices remained in Hartford. It ceased automobile production in 1915 and ceased motorcycle production in 1918. The company subsequently underwent a variety of changes in form, name and product lines through the intervening years. To this day, bicycles continue to be sold under the Columbia brand.

The Verdin Company is a manufacturer of bronze bells, clocks and towers based in Cincinnati, Ohio in the United States. The company has been making, restoring, and repairing bells for use in bell and clock towers, peals, chimes, and carillons since 1842. The company also manufactures electronic carillons, street clocks, glockenspiels, and monuments. E. Howard & Co. was a clock and watch company formed by Edward Howard and Charles Rice in 1858, after the demise of the Boston Watch Company. Telechron was an American company that manufactured electric clocks between 1912 and 1992. "Telechron" is derived from the Greek words tele, meaning "far off," and chronos, "time," thus referring to the transmission of time over long distances. Founded by Henry Ellis Warren, Telechron introduced the synchronous electric clock, which keeps time by the oscillations of the alternating current electricity that powers it from the electric power grid. Telechron had its heyday between 1925 and 1955, when it sold millions of electric clocks to American consumers.
