Elena Kalinina (born 20 July 1997) is a Russian World champion at Formula Kite where competitors use kites to propel small hydrofoils. Kalinina first became a World Champion in 2014 when she was seventeen.

Life

Kalinina was born in 1997 and she is a Russian sailor from St Petersburg.

She competed in China in 2013 where she came third. The British kiteboarder Steph Bridge was second and the world title was taken by the reigning champion Californian Erika Heineken  [ es ] [1] [2]

In 2014, course-racing kiteboarding was included in the ISAF World Sailing World Cup program. In November 2014, 20 athletes attended the final competition in Abu Dhabi.[ citation needed ] The first place among women was taken by 17 year-old Kalinina, while the men's champion was the British surfer Oliver Bridge. Kalinina just beat the Polish kitesurfer Agnieszka Grzymska, and her fellow Russian, Tatiana Sysoeva, took the bronze medal. [3]

Sixteen year-old Daniela Moroz competed closely with the 18 year old Kalinina at Weifang Binhai in the IKA Formula Kite World Championship in China. Kalinina had dominated on day five but she lost her lead on the sixth and last day in light winds. [4] Moroz won with Kalinina in second place. The leading British player Steph Bridge took third place. [5]

The 2018 Sailing World Championships was held in Denmark and Kalinina again competed at Formula Kite. She was second to the American Moroz. [6] In 2019, Kalinina again took second place to Daniela Moroz at that years World Formula Kite Championships. [7] In the 2019 World Beach Games she gained a bronze medal. [8]

Douglas again became the holder of the speed record in October 2010 when he was clocked at 55.65 knots. In 2019 while competing in La Palme France Rob set another world record in kitesurfing by sailing an average speed of 39.04 kts over 1 nautical mile.

Formula Kite is the kitesurfing class chosen by World Sailing for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The class features a foil kite and a board with a hydrofoil. The equipment is not one-design, but instead competitors use their choice of approved production equipment. The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) manages the class. The class is for men and women.

Daniela Moroz is an American sailor who became the World champion at Formula Kite six times between 2016 and 2022.

Jessie Kampman is a French Formula Kite surfer. She has won silver medals at the European championships and in 2024 she won a world bronze medal.

Stephanie "Steph" Bridge is a British kitesurfer who became the World Formula Kite champion five times between 2009 and 2016. She is the leading figure in the "Team Bridge" family.

Julia Damasiewicz is a Polish formula kitesurfer. She was the European champion in 2020.

Benyapa "Fawn" Jantawan is a real estate agent and an Olympic kite surfer from Thailand. She was the silver medallist at the 19th Asian Games in 2023.

Leonie Meyer is a German sailor, medical student and prospective Olympic kitesurfer.

Maggie Eillen Pescetto is an Italian Formula Kite sailor who took the silver position at the Kite Open Africa and Middle East Championship in 2022. She was nominated for Olympic competition at formula kite in 2024.

(María) Catalina "Cata" Turienzo is an Argentine kitesurfer who took silver at the 2023 Pan American Games and a place in the 2024 Olympic Games. She was the 2024 Formula Kite Youth World Champion.

Emily Claire Bugeja is a Canadian kitefoiler who was sixth in the Pan American Games in 2023. She was nominated to compete for Canada at the 2024 Olympics.

Alina Kornelli is a German and Austrian Formula Kite competitor. She has been a sailor and a snowboarder.
