The 2018 Hempel Sailing World Championships were held in Aarhus, Denmark, from 30 July to 12 August 2018. It was the fifth edition of the Sailing World Championships. It was the world championships for all disciplines used at the next olympics. Sailors from over 100 nations raced in the waters of the Bay of Aarhus for world championships medals and the possibility to be qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
The event took place on the Docklands, at the exact spot where the Vikings founded Aarhus. A new world class sailing centre was the venue for 14 days leaving significant impact on Denmark's sailors and on the further urban development in Aarhus.
The Sailing World Championships are held every four years, the Worlds is one of the biggest global sailing events in the world. Hempel Sailing World Championships Aarhus 2018 is the first big qualification for the Olympic games in Tokyo 2020. The World Championships included all 10 Olympic boat classes. Kite surfing was added to the programme for the first time. 1,100 sailboats and 1,500 participants from approximately 100 nations are expected to take part in the events. The event expects to draw 400,000 visitors to Aarhus, and more than 800 volunteers.

The Sailing World Championships are World championships in sailing for the 10 events contested at the Summer Olympics, organized by World Sailing and held every four years since 2003. In contrast to other years, when each class organise their World championship under supervision of World Sailing, they are the combined World championships for all the disciplines of the next Summer Olympics and serves as the major qualification event for it.
The 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships, was held in Santander, Spain, this was the fourth edition of the ISAF Sailing World Championships. It is the world championships for all disciplines used at the upcoming Olympics. What gives this event greater significance is that it was used as qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

Ragna Agerup is a Norwegian Olympic sailor and a Junior World champion. She represents the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club in Oslo and New York Yacht Club in New York City. Her college team was Brown University in Providence, RI.
Paul Kohlhoff is a German sailor. He represented Germany, along with partner Carolina Werner, in the Nacra 17 class at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and at the 2020 Summer Olympics, with Alica Stuhlemmer, winning the bronze medal.

It was the sixth edition of the Sailing World Championships and the world championships for all disciplines at the next Olympics, and for four para sailing classes. It took place on the waters off Scheveningen and offered the chance to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, whose sailing competition will be held in Marseille. Para sailing will be held on Braassemermeer. Approximately 1,400 sailors were expected.
