The 2018 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships were held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 10 to 16 September 2018 at Arena Armeec. [1] The top three countries in the group all-around, Russia, Italy, and Bulgaria won the first three spots for the 2020 Olympic Games. [2] Russia was the most successful nation of the competition with seven of the nine gold medals, and Bulgaria and Italy each won a title.
On 11 September, Russia's Dina Averina won the first two gold medals of the competition, in the hoop and ball event finals. In the hoop final, Linoy Ashram won the silver medal, the best-ever result for Israel at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, and in the ball final, Alexandra Agiurgiuculese won Italy's first individual medal in twenty-seven years. [3] Then on 13 September, Averina won the clubs gold medal, and Aleksandra Soldatova won the ribbon gold medal. Milena Baldassarri won the silver medal in the ribbon final, the best-ever result for Italy in the individual events of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships. In the team final, Russia won the gold medal, Bulgaria won a team medal for the first time since 2001 with the silver, and Italy won its first-ever team medal with the bronze. [4] On 14 September, Averina defended her World all-around title ahead of Ashram and Soldatova. [5] Russia won the gold medal in the group all-around, ahead of Italy and Bulgaria. [2] In the group event finals, Bulgaria won gold in 5 hoops, and Italy won gold in 3 balls + 2 ropes. [6]

Dina Alekseyevna Averina is a Russian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic All-around silver medalist, the only four-time World All-around Champion, the 2018 silver and 2021 European All-around bronze medalist and the 2016 Grand Prix Final All-around silver medalist. On a National level, she is the 2017, 2018 and 2022 Russian National All-around champion and the 2013 Russian Junior All-around bronze medalist. Her identical twin sister, Arina Averina, is also a competitive rhythmic gymnast.
Arina Alekseyevna Averina is a Russian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is a 2020 Summer Olympics finalist, a two-time world all-around silver medalist, a two-time European all-around champion and the 2016 Grand Prix Final all-around bronze medalist. She is a three-time (2019-2021) Russian national all-around champion and a three-time Russian national all-around medalist. Her identical twin sister Dina Averina is also a competitive rhythmic gymnast.
Laura Yihan Zeng is an American former individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. She swept all of the events at the 2015 Pan American Games and at the 2018 Pan American Championships. She is the 2014 Youth Olympic and 2019 Summer Universiade all-around bronze medalist and the 2019 Grand Prix Final hoop bronze medalist. She is an eight-time national all-around champion, six times at the senior level and twice at the junior level (2013-14).
Linoy Ashram is a retired Israeli individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic All-around Champion, the 2018 World All-around silver medalist, two-time World All-around bronze medalist, the 2020 European All-around champion, and the 2019 European Games All-around silver medalist. She is the third Israeli athlete and first Israeli woman to win an Olympic gold medal in any sport, and the first Israeli rhythmic gymnast to win an Olympic medal. She became the first rhythmic gymnast from outside a post-Soviet republic to win a gold medal at an Olympics where former Soviet states participated. Ashram announced her retirement from competitive gymnastics at a press conference in Tel Aviv on 4 April 2022.
Boryana Nikolaeva Kaleyn is a Bulgarian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the World champion in the team event at the 2023 World Championships in Valencia, as well as silver medalist in the clubs and ribbon finals. She is the 2023 European all-around champion as well as in the team competition, the 2022 European champion with ball, ribbon, and in the team competition, the 2021 and 2022 European all-around silver medalist, and the 2018 World team silver medalist. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual All-Around and finished 5th place. At the national level, she is a four-time Bulgarian National Champion.
Erika Rosenova Zafirova is a Bulgarian rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic group all-around champion. She is the 2019 World group all-around bronze medalist and 5 balls silver medalist. She is the 2021 European 5 balls champion and 3 hoops + 4 clubs silver medalist. She won two silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2019 European Games.

The 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships were held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 16 to 22 September 2019. The competition took place at the National Gymnastics Arena and served as a qualifier for the 2020 Olympic Games. There were Olympic berths awarded to 16 individuals and 5 groups. There were 301 participating athletes from 61 countries.

Evita Griskenas is an American individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2022 USA national all-around champion. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics and finished twelfth in the qualification round for the individual all-around. She was the most decorated athlete at the 2019 Pan American Games where she won four gold medals and one bronze medal. She swept the gold medals at the 2017 Pan American Championships. She is a four-time national all-around silver medalist, and the 2015 junior national all-around champion.
Alina Muratovna Adilkhanova is a Kazakhstani rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2018 Asian Games all-around and team champion. She is also the 2018 and 2021 Asian all-around champion and is an eleven-time medalist at the Asian Championships. She represented Kazakhstan at the 2020 Summer Olympics and placed twenty-first in the qualification round for the all-around.
Nicole Pircio Nunes Duarte is a Brazilian rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2021 and 2022 Pan American group all-around champion and the 2019 Pan American Games 3 hoops + 4 clubs champion. She won three gold medals at the 2018 South American Games and at the 2019 South American Championships, and she won four gold medals at the 2022 South American Championships. She represented Brazil at the 2020 Summer Olympics and finished twelfth in qualifications for the group all-around.
Viktoriia Maksimivna Onopriienko is a Ukrainian individual rhythmic gymnast. She competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing tenth in the all-around final. She is the 2020 Grand Prix Final all-around champion and the 2022 World Games ribbon bronze medalist. She is the 2021 Ukrainian all-around champion. At the junior level, she is the 2018 European team silver medalist.
Darya Sorokina is an Azerbaijani individual and group rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2022 World 3 Ribbons + 2 Balls bronze medalist.
