Gemma Natasha Frizelle (born 2 May 1998) [1] is a Welsh rhythmic gymnast, who won the individual hoop event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She has won multiple medals at the Welsh and British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, and also competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Frizelle took up rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 12. [2] She trains at Llanelli Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy. [3] She finished second at the 2015 Welsh Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, [3] as well as the all-around events at the 2016 and 2017 British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. [1]
Frizelle competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. [4] She finished 15th in the individual all-around competition, [5] and was part of the Welsh team that finished fifth in the team all-around event. [6] At the 2018 Welsh Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, she won the ball event, and finished third in the clubs, hoop and ribbon events. [7] At the 2019 British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, she came third in the all-around event. [1] Frizelle won the all-around event at the 2021 Welsh Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, and at the 2022 competition, she won the all-around, ball, ribbon, hoop and clubs events. [1] That year, she also finished second in the British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships hoop event, and third in the ball event. [1]
Frizelle competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after recovering from a back injury. [2] She won the individual hoop event, [2] [4] and her winning routine was performed to "Nessun dorma", which is her mother's favourite song. [4] She was the first Welsh women to win the event at a Commonwealth Games. [2] At the Games, Frizelle also finished eighth in the ball event, [2] 13th in the individual all-around event, [8] and was part of the Welsh team that came sixth in the team all-around competition. Frizelle was born in Cardiff, Wales. [2] She studied at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where she obtained an undergraduate degree in sports science, and a master's degree in psychology from Cardiff University. [1]
Francesca Victoria R. Jones is a retired Welsh rhythmic gymnast who represented Wales at three successive Commonwealth Games. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games Jones won both the Ribbon event in rhythmic gymnastics and the David Dixon Award.
Dina Alekseyevna Averina is a Russian former individual rhythmic gymnast. She was the 2020 Olympic All-around silver medalist, the only four-time World All-around Champion, the 2018 silver and 2021 European All-around bronze medalist and the 2016 Grand Prix Final All-around silver medalist. On a national level, she was the 2017, 2018 and 2022 Russian National All-around champion and the 2013 Russian Junior All-around bronze medalist. Her identical twin sister, Arina Averina, is also a competitive rhythmic gymnast.
Arina Alekseyevna Averina is a Russian former individual rhythmic gymnast. She was a 2020 Summer Olympics finalist, a two-time world all-around silver medalist, a two-time European all-around champion and the 2016 Grand Prix Final all-around bronze medalist. She was a three-time (2019–2021) Russian national all-around champion and a three-time Russian national all-around medalist. Her identical twin sister Dina Averina is also a competitive rhythmic gymnast.
Laura Halford is a British rhythmic gymnast from Cricklade, Wiltshire. Halford is a four times senior British champion, and two times junior British champion. She represented Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Laura Yihan Zeng is an American former individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. She swept all of the events at the 2015 Pan American Games and at the 2018 Pan American Championships. She is the 2014 Youth Olympic and 2019 Summer Universiade all-around bronze medalist and the 2019 Grand Prix Final hoop bronze medalist. She is an eight-time national all-around champion, six times at the senior level and twice at the junior level (2013–14).
Linoy Ashram is a retired Israeli individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic All-around Champion, the 2018 World All-around silver medalist, two-time World All-around bronze medalist, the 2020 European All-around champion, and the 2019 European Games All-around silver medalist. She is the third Israeli athlete and first Israeli woman to win an Olympic gold medal in any sport, and the first Israeli rhythmic gymnast to win an Olympic medal. She became the first rhythmic gymnast from outside a post-Soviet republic to win a gold medal at an Olympics where former Soviet states participated.
Rut Castillo Galindo is a Mexican individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented Mexico at the 2020 Summer Olympics and became the first Mexican rhythmic gymnast to compete at an Olympic Games. She is the 2021 Pan American all-around champion. At the 2007 Pan American Games, she won the silver medal in hoop and the bronze medals in the all-around and clubs. She is an eight-time Central American and Caribbean Games champion. She has also competed at nine World Championships.
Stephani Anne Sherlock is a British individual rhythmic gymnast who has represented England and Great Britain at international competitions.
Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva OLY(born 4 March 2002) is an Australian rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games clubs champion, team silver medallist, and all-around bronze medallist. She also won two bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is a four-time Australian all-around champion. She won five bronze medals at the 2022 Maccabiah Games and has competed at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships five times.
Koi Sie Yan is a Malaysian rhythmic gymnast.
Evita Griskenas is an American individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She previously represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing 12th in the qualification round for the individual all-around. At the 2023 Portimao World Challenge Cup, she became the first American to win an all-around silver medal on the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series. She is the 2022 USA national all-around champion, a four-time national all-around silver medalist, and the 2015 junior national all-around champion.
Viktoriia Maksimivna Onopriienko is a Ukrainian individual rhythmic gymnast. She competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing tenth in the all-around final. She is the 2020 Grand Prix Final all-around champion and the 2022 World Games ribbon bronze medalist. At the junior level, she is the 2018 European team silver medalist.
Lidiia Anatolyevna Iakovleva is a Russian-born Australian rhythmic gymnast who represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the individual all-around. She represented Australia at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and won a bronze medal in the mixed multi-discipline team event. She won a silver medal in the team event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics as part of Australia's rhythmic gymnastics group.
Ekaterina Andreevna Fetisova is an Uzbekistani rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2021 Asian Championships ball champion and all-around bronze medalist. She also won team gold and hoop bronze at the 2019 Asian Championships. She represented Uzbekistan at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is the 2018 Asian junior all-around champion.
Takhmina Ikromova is an Uzbekistani rhythmic gymnast. She is an Asian Games champion individually and in the team event, and she is also a two-time all-around champion at the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, in 2022 and 2023. She competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the rhythmic individual all-around.
Elzhana Taniyeva is a Kazakh rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2024 Asian all-around champion and will represent Kazakhstan at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She is the 2022 Asian Games all-around and team silver medalist. She won three medals at the 2021 Summer World University Games and four medals at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games. Taniyeva competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the rhythmic individual all-around.
