Flying Dutchman World Championship

The Flying Dutchman World Championship, also known as FD Worlds, are international sailing regattas in the Flying Dutchman class organized by the International Flying Dutchman Class Organization since 1956 and recognised by World Sailing. [1]

Contents

The Szabolcs Majthényi & András Domokos team has been the most successful in the history of the championships, with fourteen titles, making Hungary the most successful among the nations. Danish sailors together have won thirteen championships as well, followed by sailors of West Germany with eight titles.

Flying Dutchman was an Olympic class from 1960 to 1992.

History

The first Flying Dutchman World Championships were held in Starnberger See in 1956.

Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad. With the exception of 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1960 consisted of a total of five sailing classes (disciplines). For each class seven races were scheduled from 29 August 1960 to 7 September 1960 off the coast of Naples at the Gulf of Naples.

The Sailing program of 1924 consisted of a total of three sailing classes (disciplines). For each of the classes the event an elimination round, semi-finals and finals were scheduled. The French National Monotype 1924 was on the program from 10 to 13 July. The Metre classes had their races from 21 to 26 July.

Jørgen Bojsen-Møller is a Danish sailor and Olympic champion. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and won a gold medal in the Flying Dutchman class, together with Christian Grønborg. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona he received a bronze medal in the Flying Dutchman, together with his cousin Jens Bojsen-Møller.

Jens Bojsen-Møller is a Danish sailor and Olympic medalist. He competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and won a bronze medal in the Flying Dutchman class, together with his cousin Jørgen Bojsen-Møller.

The organization of this event was in the hands of the Multilario, a joint venture of local yacht clubs at Lake Como. The Vintage Yachting Games Organization (VYGO) was the governing organization. A total of 225 sailors in 113 boats from 17 countries competed in seven Vintage Yachting Classes
