Sophie Claire Ainsworth (born 22 June 1989) is a British sailor who qualified to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Ainsworth was born on 22 June 1989 in Ashford, Kent, England. [1] She studied exercise and sports science at the University of Exeter. Whilst at the university she was sponsored by a local law firm as part of a sports scholarship scheme. [2] [3]
She finished tenth at the 2010 European 470 Championships, [4] alongside fellow University of Exeter alumni Sophie Weguelin. [5] Ainsworth and Weguelin won their first World Cup regatta medal in Miami in 2012, winning the bronze medal as British teammates and training partners Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark won silver. [6] [7] They then won a gold medal at the 2012 European Championship event in Largs, Scotland. The British pair were one of four teams in contention heading into the final race in 2012 and secured the overall title ahead of Solvenian pair Tina Mrak and Teja Cerne despite finishing behind them in the medal race. [8]
In 2013 Ainsworth teamed up with Charlotte Dobson to compete in the 49er FX classification. [9] At the 2014 49er European Championships, held in Helsinki, Finland, the pair managed a sixth place. [10]
The following year, at the 49er FX World Championships, held in San Isidro, Argentina, they finished in fifth place, only four points behind the medal positions. [11]
With these successes behind them, in March 2016 they were selected as part of the Great Britain team for the 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They are due to compete in the women's 49er FX event, which is making its debut at the Games. [9] [12] [13] They competed in the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma, Majorca in April 2016, finishing fifth in the opening race before suffering problems with their equipment in race two. [14] They eventually placed sixth overall after taking second place in the final race. [15] Later that month at the 49er European Championships in Barcelona, Spain, Ainsworth and Dobson were joint third after the second day of competition where they finished their three races, first, second and third. [16] A victory in the final medal race meant they eventually finished ninth overall, and seventh among European boats. [17]

Hannah Louise Mills, is a British competitive sailor and two-time world champion in the Women's 470 class, having won in 2012 and 2019. Mills won a silver medal for Team GB with her crew Saskia Clark in the 2012 Olympics, she followed this up with a gold in the same event at both the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and, partnered by Eilidh McIntyre, the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo

Andrew Blair Tuke is a New Zealand sailor who won the 2021 Americas Cup Held in Auckland and also won the 2017 Version held in Bermuda. He also won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 49er class alongside Peter Burling.

Sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 25 July to 4 August 2021 at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Enoshima. The venue was also used for the 1964 Olympic Games although significantly regenerated, the IOC now encouraging regeneration, cost reductions and sustainability. The RS:X, Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470, 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra17 are all returning for 2020; there are no significant changes to the Olympic programme from 2016.

Eilidh Jane McIntyre is a British former sailor, who won the gold medal alongside Hannah Mills in the 470 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the 2019 470 World Championships, and came second at the 2017 470 World Championships. She finished third at the 2015 470 European Championships, and second at the 2019 and 2021 events, as well as having won multiple Sailing World Cup medals. In 2022, McIntyre was awarded an MBE for services to yachting.
